17 and ready for the military... young marines tell me about basic training?

I'm 17 and I 'm trying to prepare myself for the military..I was looking into the marines.. I just wanted to know how was basic training?

How was it, you ask? It was a physical challenge for sure, but the mental challenge is what it's all about.
You can prepare physically for it but nothing anyone tells you will guarantee you are prepared mentally because everyone's experience is different. Yes, everyone goes through the same training but it is more about how you accept that training than anything else.
Anyone can do push-ups, anyone can run, but not everyone can internalize exactly what it MEANS to be a United States Marine. Sure, some do enough to get by and just follow the recruit in front of them but when you're out in the FMF somewhere with rounds coming downrange that recruit will likely not be there to bail your *** out. You have to reach down, grab hold and take charge of your life. If you do any less you foul the uniform. Marines can smell a ****-bird in the ranks from two clicks out, and trust me when I tell you if you give your shipmates anything less than your full measure at all times you will be dealt with harshly with nobody to blame but yourself.
Boot camp becomes remarkably easy once you realize no matter what you do, no matter how fast or how correct you do it, it will always be too slow or wrong during the beginning. The point is not to succeed at that particular task, the point is to become a cohesive unit.
To make a long story short, I once told a Marine recruiter what the Army was going to do for me and asked what the Marines would do. He said "It's not about what we're going to do for you, son. It's about what you are going to do for us". He promised 3 hots and a cot, he promised pain, misery, deployments and crappy pay for high risk. He also promised one HELL of a challenge.
He was right on all fronts, and I drew my full issue of each.
