You don't have to join, You do have to sign up for the selective service though http://www.sss.gov/FSwho.htm
Not everyone who goes to war dies, I've spent 3 years in Iraq. in 2004 I was shot in the head and hit by over two dozen IED's, since then I've gone back to Iraq and returned without a scratch.
I'm in the infantry. There are hundreds of other jobs out there that will keep you in the FOB and "safe" from the baddies. Then again, Mortars don't have names on them, Maybe you should just work at the mall. |

If you're not up for it, which it doesn't seem like you are, then don't join. |

You can join military forces instead of the army (I don't know if that's the same thing) such as the Navy or rescue forces. Otherwise I'm not really sure what you do.
BTW if you're scared of joining the military, then don't join it. You can find another career field that you're interested in |

Bro you don't have to join. but you could go into a medical field or work with people its not just war and dieing |

If you don't want to go to war I wouldn't suggest joining the military.. because at any point and time they can tell you that you are going to iraq or being deployed to korea or germany.. if you are scared of that it;s not the right thing for you. sorry =/ |

There is no military draft so don't sweat it. There are more than a hundred and fifty jobs in the Army alone. Not everybody in the military is in the infantry. |

Why did you sign up and if you didn't then why can't you choose another occupation? Ask yourself.. |

No. You only have to register with Selective Service at 18. It's still a all volunteer military. |

There are over 150 jobs in the military, few jobs dealing with direct combat. You can be a mechanic, pilot, cook, data collector, translator, and the list goes on. Whatever job you do though, you most likely will be deployed to war, your chances of dying are small though with a job outside of combat.

If you have to go in the military i am guessing that your in some sort of legal trouble. listen to the court go into the military learn to respect the discipline it requires and you won't need to hide behind a desk you will be able to keep yourself alive and when u are done you will have earned the respect education and discipline yourself.
good luck and keep your head low |

You don’t need to go to the military its voluntary !!!
Unless there’s a draft which will not happen unless there’s a world war 3 . |

Being in the military is similar in most ways to being a civilian; however, there exists one important difference. All jobs in the military are designed to destroy or support the destruction of the enemy. As for death, there is no guarantee either way, there are soldiers who spend three to four tours of duty in combat operations without incident, and there are soldiers killed stateside in a car crash. And although the military's primary function is war, they actually do quite a bit more.
Selective service registration is still required for all Males 18 and over, but nobody has been drafted since Vietnam. Right now, the military believes it is most effective with people who want to join on their own accord. There are some people who do well in the military and those that don't.
If you are not sure the military is for you, but you think you may want to join, talk to a recruiter. Their job is to help those who want to join to find their place. Recruiters don't enlist soldiers, you will have to go to a MEPS to actually enlist, so if you are on the fence they can help without obligation.
If you don't want to join, you really don't need to worry unless the US is invaded by a foreign military. Right now the draft idea is a political death nail, nobody wants to touch it. |

If you are so scared of it, don't join. You don't have to go to the military. Its not an enforcement. Just do whatever you want to do. Obama is getting all of the troops out of Iraq now anyhow. You wouldn't have to go to war. |

when you join the military that`s means you are willing to die for your country but if you don't want to go to war than the COAST GUARD MIGHT BE FOR YOU. |
