1. I want a something medical, such as:
-Dental Assistant/Apprentice
-Ophthalmic Apprentice
-Mental Health Apprentice
-Pharmacy Apprentice
-Diet Therapy
-Physical Medicine Apprentice
-Surgical Services Apprentice
However, my recruiter told me you can't get a guaranteed in Medical, and that I'll have to go 'Open General' and then when I go to MEPS not lift much weight. (But I was always told DO NOT go open general!) Is he giving me the entire truth? What do I do? (All I know is I don't want services, or anything mechanical where I know I'll be miserable)
2.What score did you get on your ASVAB - and what was your GPA in High School?
3. What is the time for your 1.5 in BMT? I thought I read somewhere that it was 14:?? but my recruiter today told me 12-13:??

1. I'm pretty sure if you score in the 90's you can get a guaranteed medical job. Recruiters tell you they can't just so you hurry up and sign with an open aptitude area. If you score in the 90's get a guaranteed job! You wil probably have to wait months and months so make sure thats the one you want! Open general is VERY GENERAL!!!!!!!
2. My asvab was 63 AFQT, 81 mechanical, 55 admin, 72 general, and 59 electronics. (very surprising and disappointing) With my scores there were a lot of jobs that I qualified for surprisingly. Most general jobs (medical) are 72 or less (not 100% sure). My GPA in high school was about 3.0 slacker ;]
3. I know that mens 1.5 mile run is 11:57, girls is about 13. I saw your times on your other post, and you should be fine if you keep running often.

I just got done the meps process. Do not go open general. They will stick you with security forces. My recruiter is pretty good, he even warned me not to say open anything. I leave may 12 for basic and then to in-flight refuler training.
I got an 94 on my asvab. Anthing over a 93 on the asvab is called EWQ- extremely well qualified. They book the jobs first. Since I was EWQ someone got blocked from the job so I could have it. I tell you this, so you know to take it seriously. The higher you get the better your chances.
You are required list 4 jobs, make sure they are all medical, then hold out until you get them. Explain to the people at MEPs what you want, they can give you more help because your recruiter just needs people to join and at MEPs they are not worried about quota.
I know a guy who did this. He is stuck in supply now. Talk to another recruiter if you don't trust your guy. Be honest, this is your life your deciding on, not their's. |
