.30-06 Springfield cartridge vs. .308 cartridge?

none of the *** holes over at hunting are answering my question.
I want to have the cartridge between these two that is superior in accuracy and power. I am going to be shooting a Remington 700 BDL iron sights, at targets. i have been leaning toward the .30-06 springfield chamber, seeing as it is a larger round so it is most likely more powerful and more accurate. i get the more accurate assumption from the fact that i always hear that the springfield 03 rifle is "the most accurate rifle in the world"

The military went from the 30-06 to the 308 because with modern powders, you do not need as much powder for the same power, so a smaller case works just as well.
You can find tons of 308 military surplus ammo. Relatively cheap. I doubt you will find any 30-06 military surplus ammo so you had better willing to pay more for your ammo.
The 03 Springfield was accurate because it was a bolt action of the Mauser design. The soldiers also practiced a lot so each soldier was almost a sniper in his capabilities. An auto loader loses some of its accuracy because its action does not lock up as tight as a bolt action.
However, the 30-06 was designed for a bolt action rifle whereas the 308 was designed for an auto loader. Since you are asking specifically about a bolt action rifle, I would use a round that was designed for a bolt action rifle. Besides, you really can not go wrong with a 30-06. |

There is nothing if anything that is of any significance between those two cartridges. As for accuracy look at the 7Mag shoots faster which means flatter increasing accuracy, and will kill anything in the lower 48 just as an .06 or .308. I suspect you already know that. Remington has long been touted as the most accurate rifle you can buy out of the box. If you want better accuracy get a scope on that unless you can see a beer can at 300 yards with the naked eye. Don't know what you are planning on hunting but you need a scope on that rifle. |

from my research the Springfield rifles are indeed the most accurate, the more power you have, you usually loose accuracy, but the springfield has a good mix of both. |
