Yuh, Lockerbie was a revenge killing. Big difference is that the Americans almost immediately acknowledged a grievous mistake and paid compensation (yes, I know, compensation doesn't bring back lives lost, but it does acknowledge error and responsibility).

The Lockerbie bombing was on purpose, and then the bombers ran and hid like the cowards they were.

The US has done some bad things and several stupid things; but, they don't deliberately set off to kill a planeload of women and children to avenge an Islamic error from years earlier.

The investigation lead straight back to Libya. One of the Libyan agents responsible is in prison for the crime. I'd say it kinda punches holes in your theory.

The difference is the US apologized for the mistake and paid reparations to the Families. Terrorist don't do that. The reparations and apologies were given before the lockerbie attack. So the revenge thing doesn't hold alot of water. I was serving in the gulf at the time and the whole fleet was ashamed of the USS Vincennes. However in Washington there was a bit of a white wash that went on so as not to say the incident was our fault. The story being that in the middle of a battle with Iranian gun boats an Iranian aircraft wouldn't ID itself and was declared a hostile and shot down. This obviously was a mistake but understandable in the fog of combat. Thus no one was held responsible. However all this took place after Lockerbie and so the Terrorist shouldn't of had a real reason to kill all those people for July 1988 incident.

The two events are not connected to each other. The Lockerbrie bombing was done by a Libyan intelligence agent (Abdelbaset Ali Mohmed Al Megrahi) on orders from Qaddafi.

Megrahi was tried and convicted of this crime in Scotland on 13 January 2001. He is now serving a 27 year sentence.

Not really.

I would need a lot of proof before the connection could be made. It would be nice to be able to say that this was a retaliation for the shooting down of the Iranian airliner by the US but I think Iran does its own work in that field thus if it was, they would have had it crash in the United States to prove a point.

This is a case where a terrorist nation decided to take advantage of the situation. Perhaps the outrage of the downing of a airliner on their way to Mecca spilled over to other Mideastern nations but I read about the investigation and Libya does figure hugely.

The plane travelling to Mecca was recognised on the radar as an unidentified aircraft, and was asked several times to identify itself. There was no response, so it was fired on.
