A Question to Veterans?
|
If you are a veteran respond, otherwise just watch.
Do you feel that the Government has justified your sacrifices?
Yes or No, and why?

Marine till Death

My government owes me nothing. I earned the respect of those I served with and that is my payment. I served the best I knew how and did my best to bring everybody home. As long as I continue to live in the USA, the greatest country on Earth, my service is justified. This may not be a perfect country or system, but I have seen enough to know it is better than about 99.9% of the alternatives. |

Could any government justify ones sacfrice of life for millions of others.
The satisfaction isn't given by the government, but on the faces of everyday citizens that approach us and ask to shake your hand. That is the justice in knowing you've done your job. That individual is free and honors you through gratitude. |

I didn't sign up and ask that the government "justify" my sacrifice. I signed up, and so did every man and woman in uniform, because we chose to serve, we all have our reasons, be it college, protecting our children's way of life, or pure love of country, don't you dare sit and try to degrade the sacrifices WE chose to make by trying to imagine the government has to "justify" what i chose to do. No one has to justify my choice to serve my country.....when are you going to sign up? |

Justified how ? I proudly served my country for 23 years and would do so again glady of my own free will.
Now if your asking about compensation, no. Every year congress strips away our earned benefits in healthcare for example. The one thing retirees need the most. |

My Country doesn't owe me anything. I did my job and I was sent to Saudi Arabia when Iraq declared war and yes the VA finally awarded me 100% back pay for my injury duirng service. So the answer to your question is yes it is justified. |

they dont need to justify anything to me, I did my job, got 100% disabled, got out. They take x cellant care of me. I am proud to of served and would do it all over.
Only bad thing is I cannot be there to help anymore.
Thank you all who are serving. Thank you for putting your life on the line so I can sit here and try to explain to these idiots who hate you, what you guys are doing. God bless every American soldier, sailor, marine and zoomie |

When I enlisted in the Marines it was not a job application. I submitted my services to defend and represent our country. Our country owes me nothing..........it is us, the citizens, that owe our country for the freedom we have been given. Having seen how other countries treat their people only makes me more appreciative of what our country does for us. |

No weapon was ever held to my head and I was never forced to serve my country. I joined the Marine Corps with eyes wide open. Knowing fully what was ahead of me.I put my life on the line for the principles of freedom and what it stands for. I got to share water from a canteen with a Few of Americas finest. Some have their names forever etched in marble at "The Wall". The real wealth in this government is its' people. The soldier doesn't do what he/she does for a pat on the back or an "attaboy". For me....it is the smile on a childs face while they are playing. |

I'm a veteran.
I served my COUNTRY. I never asked the "government" to justify anything about my service. I did it for "We the People."
g-day! |

I personally can justify any sacrifices I've made in my over 20 years in the Navy....long separations from my family (12 months in Viet Nam,13 months in Antarctica, 12 months in the Middle East, 6 months in the Indian Ocean, 6 months in the Mediterranean, long hours on ships).
Would I do it all again? You bet your sweet a.s.s. I would.
I'm PROUD to have had the privilege to serve the United States of America as I did. I only wish I could have done more but I took what I got and lived with it.
Sounds like you have a hair up your butt about people in the military.
For those who have fought for it, Freedom has a flavor the protected will never know! You only have the rights you're willing to FIGHT for!

Yes; if you have ever lived abroad you would understand.
I have lived in some nice places but even in the UK there is too much limitation on personal freedoms. In London I always felt that if I was attacked I could not defend myself.
The United States is a great place because of the sacrifices we have made; not just on the battlefield but in all of the day to day work that makes a great nation.
You do not have to be a veteran to understand. |

It was an honor and a privilege to serve. I don't look at it as a sacrifice, it was a labor of love. I'm proud of my government right now. |

No...my government shanghaied me into 20 months of involuntary servitude, subjected me to danger, disease, and disaster in a war zone that took the lives of over 60000 fellow Americans including the life of a family member, not to mention the crippling of hundreds of thousands of other combatants and left me with damaged hearing, impaired sense of balance and shrapnel in my skull. All in the name of fighting a war that should never have been fought in the first place. Has the government justified all this? No they haven't and never will. I used to be bitter, but got over it (roll eyes). |

Yes and No!
If and when sovereign states are attacked, invaded and their duly elected governments ruling under civilized democratic rights and principles (as freely elected by their peoples are imperiled) then, unhesitatingly, yes, yes, yes!
However, in the case of the Middle East, all so called nations like Saudi, Kuwait, Itan, Iraq and many, many more are not by any stretch of the imagination elected democratically. I.e. democracy doesn't exist - isn't allowed to exist - will never be allowed to exist.
All those that rule there, Albeit one family despots, dictators, war lords, clerical extremist fanatics and multi despotic organisations will always oppose it!
That the Western World Presidents, Prime Ministers and all others of political breeding and intent protect and preserve all such unelected, undemocratic factions not only by armed intervention but with the blood and lives of their (our) christian military is universally criminal!!
Look at the cost to American and its supporting Allied armies.
Thousands dead, injured, crippled and/or maimed for life!
To what end?
Bush and allied others finally backing off, albeit too late! As in Vietnam, nothing achieved, everyting lost.
Western countries labled with every conceivable measure of distrust, hatred, suspician and whatever. Bush and Blair 2 men who have irretreviably changed the fabric of civilisation and the day to day fabric of life in the own lands.
More so in the UK wherein immigration and coutless attendent factors has ruined the life, traditions and culture of a once pround and great nation. |
