A few questions about the Marines?

I am 13 and want to join the Marines when am 18. I just want some questions answered.

1) Do you get payed in training camp?

2) Hw long are you in boot camp, before they send you to wherever we will be fighting?

3) Is there some type of time limit you have to serve, before you can retire?

4) DO YOU RETIRE? Or, do they give you honorable discharge?

ANY OTHER INFO WOULD BE GREAT. ALSO, SOME TIPS TO HELP ME GET READY.

Okay, yes you do get paid in bootcamp, but you will not see that money unitl you are almost done with your training. Training is 12 weeks. Then you report to MCT or if you are a grunt SOI. After that you will be sent to your MOS school, depending on what your job is will determine how long your school is. After you graduate school you will go to your unit. Depending on where you are stationed you may or may not be sent into the fight, some MOS' stay in the rear and some duty stations are non deployable. To retire you must serve 20 years. Now you will have options when you enlist (i.e 4 yrs active, 4 yrs inactive; 5 yrs active, 3 yrs inactive; 8 yrs as a reservist, etc). Once you have that figured out, every time your contract is up, usually every 4 years you can either re enlist or accept your discharge. The type of discharge will be based on you. If you do what you are supposed to and stay out of trouble it will be honorable, if you are a trouble maker or even have a ton of bad luck it could be a worse discharge. you still have alot of time to think about things, but rent some books, watch some bootcamp documentaries and get in touch with a recruiter in a few years. Good Luck! Semper Fi!

You can be in the Marines for as long as your health lets you but I think the minimum is 2 or 4 years I'm not sure.

There's also a good chance you won't do any fighting, Obama wants all troops out of Iraq by 2010 but we'll probably find some more countries to invade.

You also have a lot of time to think about this and if you come from a family thats anything but poor I would try to go to college first if I were you.

But do whatever you want to do and I don't think you have to start getting ready yet.

Take care and remember to tip your waitress. Good night

1. you get Paid but it is held for you and anything that is bought at the PX for personal toiletries is deducted. There is no reason for you to have money in training.

2. You have boot camp which i believe is now 12 weeks and then AIT, and depending on your MOS you may be in AIT anywhere from a month to several months before going to your MOS school.....then you are deployable

3. Yes, minimum is 20 years

4. After 20 you Retire with a percentage of your base pay at the grade that you achieved

You got 5 years yet, you don't need tips, you may change your mind by then!

1. You are payed during training.
2. You complete your training, then report to your unit. You deploy with your unit.
3. Eight year military obligation, although you can spend some of this time inactive.
4. It's both.

You have a long time to prepare. Just do pushups all the time, and run as much as you can. Join JROTC at your highschool, regardless of the branch, it'll help you in your paygrade when you do join.

1) Yes, once a month.

2) 8 weeks. You are then sent to AIT, then a unit. When your unit is sent to "fight," you'll go with them.

3) 20 years.

4) Yes, if you do 20 years. And yes you will earn at least 4 HONORABLE Discharges over a 20 year career.
