If you listened to every one who ever claimed to have been in the SAS then it would be the largest regiment in the world.
I am sure any genuine SAS Trooper would not be talking about their past. There is no real way of getting proof other than being able to walk up to the gates at hereford and being let onto the base and meeting some of their old mates !
If he was in the military he must have some evidence but being in this elite unit will be hard to prove / disprove.... |

If he says he was in the SAS then it's almost certain that he wasn't |

I have been a soldier. Ask him his army number. He should remember it off by heart every time you ask him. Every soldier has photos cos we are proud of them. I dont like the sound of this at all. You sure he is for real hun. Dont sound like to me. |

Just say that it's a common trick amongst lowlife scum to say that, and of course while you don't think he's a lying scumbag, you can't believe him without proof. If he's real former SAS he'll understand and trouble you no more, it won't be a big deal. |

As a former professional soldier, if he doesn't have any pictures, mementos no matter how small, then quite frankly he is BS'ing you, and probably anyone who will listen to him. Military service for anyone who takes it too that level, is often the most profound thing they will do in there entire life. No picture of himself on the wall in dress uniform smiling, no framed awards or plaques saying good luck, or anything is a good indicator, nope, hes full of crap. |

Ask him to stir a campfire with his pecker. If he can't, he's a fake. |

Anyone having been in the regiment should be keeping his gob shut and saying he came from another unit ( parent unit ) and the parent unit would be checkable. Ask his army number, should be 8 digits and NO ONE forgets it, it's tatooed to your brain, will start with a 2, if he was in 83-87 could be anywhere between 2468**** and 2479****
If it bothers you that much give me his name, date of birth, and when he was in.
I am ex-forces and knew a few guys. I asked one of them on day "were you at the Iranian Embassy siege'. his reply. " No but i know about 2000 guys that say they were"
Heads up, or as you would say, watch out |

sounds like he`s bull sh..in u. i was in an elite reg but i dont tell people about it,i`ve met loads of people who reckon they were in 22sas but when i ask them details they make up a story like the official secrets act or something stupid,
i can only put it down to them trying to impress some1.Ask him how much under the alloted time he did the long drag,it should be under 3hrs or ask him what the fan dance is,all sas troopers and elite groups will know what this is ,if he doesnt he`s lyin to you |

This is a true story.
Years ago a friend of mine said her boyfriend was in the S.A.S and I said how do you know he's telling you the truth her reply was
" He said they get a special invisible tattoo on the soles of their feet ".
I laughed but she was adamant that he was telling the truth.
I think most of the above answers will keep you right. |

Contact the Special Air Service Regimental Association. To get their number, go through a Recruiting office or try one of the numbers on this page:
http://www.army.mod.uk/uksf/special_forces_soldier_reserve_/sas/index.htm
Explain your situation and that you would like to verify if a given individual by a certain name was ever a member of the Regiment.
Good luck. |

Ask him his Army number and what regiment he was in. The 11th regiment is based in Scotland etc. |

Ask him his service number. If he really was a member of the Armed Forces then he should tell you his number without thinking about it.
Then ask him where he did his initial training and what Regiment he was in and where the Regiments barracks were.
It seems he is both full of sh1te and an attention seeker. |

S>A>S Have to be invisible its the nature of the beast. You dont advertise when your undercover. I think you could tell by the blokes manner is he fit? is he strong? They are not allowed to talk about it so maybe he isnt |

no way you can find out for sure but remember this it is a small elite band of men, but must be the biggest regiment in the world with the amount of guys who say they where in it |

It is pretty sad when someone spends a whole career pretendign to be elite then has nothing to show for it in the end. |

Ask him: 'What colour is the boat house in Hereford?' ('Ronin')
Joking aside, I agree with other respondents: if this guy brags about being in Special Forces, he probably wasn't. The absence of memorabilia isn't damning in itself, though.
You could try the British Army Rumour Service forums at www.arrse.co.uk. They've developed 'Walt finding' ('Walt' = Walter Mitty) into a fine sport, and would probably enjoy 'outing' another one. |

Its happens. A "relative" of mine says he worked with the SAS in the first gulf war.
I happen to know he was a trot sentry on a boat in Rosyth at the time.

Hi
You could do some research and then ask questions later, ask him who formed the S.A.S, ask where and why they were formed, what were they called before the S.A.S, what at that time was the favoured weapon, how many prisoners were they equiped to capture at a time, what is their Naval equivelant called, I know the answer because I was in the S.A.S also.......Saturday and Sunday... the Territorials.
A personal message to Archie, Hoody and Marshall, if this catches your eye don't miss the reunion this year, it's in June.
"Thar she blows jiga jig jig... sit down yer cider suppin b....rds"
Sorry about that I got carried away, hope this helps. |

Here in the States,I've heard guys claim to be or to have been "Special Ops", Navy Seals,All kinds of clandestine units, and the first answer said it all---if they really were, they wouldn't talk about it. Maybe to a long standing friend, they say something--all the rest is typical bar-room garbage. |
