My husband just graduated from basic and he is now in Ft. Eustis, VA. His training is 27 weeks long so I decided to move there, on my own of course, after reading some info I found here. I know him living with me is dependent on how well he does etc, so that part I'm well aware of. I was just wondering if, because his training is more than 20 weeks, will he be able to change the address/zip code of where his dependent is living? I know it will affect our BAH, which is fine, I've looked into it, but as to them not allowing him to have a BAH at all?
Also, I'm making this move because I choose to, I have no children and the items we do have are very small and not troublesome to move. I simply want to ensure that what I've been reading is correct, so I figured the best way to get a response is to ask it directly myself. Thanks much :)

It must be approved even if its off base? The move I figured I would do on my own because like I said I have few items, and I would rather them move me when its time for our first duty station.

All he needs to do is change the zip code and that will change BAH. You might get more if cost of living is higher, or you might get less. Most likely the army will not move you. But you said you are the one that wants to move so I guess you don't care if they move your or not. They will not cancel your BAH so don't worry about that part. If you had a power of attorney you could go and change the zip code yourself. |

He will always get BAH no matter where you are, it will just be more or less depending on the living expenses and how much that zip code is allotted. |

It can be allowed if approved, housing office will not help you, he needs to speak to Personnel about it to see if it can be. If it is then you can qualify for housing in which the BAH will change to that location's rate. If it isn't approved then it will remain based on where you are suppose to be. They will not cancel his BAH.
Now if it is approved then the military will pay for the move from that location to where he is going to be transfered to. If it isnt approved then they will only pay to move you from where you are suppose to be. |
