MALT - Mileage is $.24 per mile when you drive there. They will only pay for the most direct route from Base A to Base B. If it is 1000 miles and you go 1200 miles unless there is a reason behind the extra 200 miles you will only get paid for the 1000 miles. MALT Is no longer dependent on how many people are in the vehicle, it was changed about 2 years ago to be a flat rate of $.24 whether there is 1 person or 7 people in the car.

DLA - Dislocation allowance is a set rate based on married or single and rank of AD member. Starts at around $1500 and goes up from there for married AD members.

The people that say they got $5K probably did a Partial DITY meaning they also got paid for moving some of their belongings. To get that you need to weigh the vehicle before you load it at a weigh station and then after you load it up. Then when you arrive at the new base you must weigh it again usually. They will pay a certain amount per pound for this. For DITY and Partial DITY moves the money you get for it is taxable. So sometimes you can get a decent amount it but after taxes and stress it isn't worth it.

DLA is a flat rate based upon the rank of the soldier and whether or not there are dependents.

During the time that you are actually traveling, you will also get mileage (if driving) and per diem rates for each individual (to cover food and lodging).

You're thinking of an advance. DLA is just a flat rate payment for your moved based on rank.

You can get an advance on your move. There are 2 types of advances, one based on your rank (you can get up to 3 months and it's like a no-interest loan and you pay it back monthly for a year.) Or you can get an advance on you travel pay, so when you turn in your travel voucher they'll take the advance out of that travel pay.

Mileage is not just 24 cents a mile, infact it's not even that high. It goes by age of dependents, number of dependents, etc. There is also per diem and other costs. They'll calculate how much you can barrow and you can either take the max or take less. It's up to you. But if you happen to go over what they estimate and you receive less in your travel pay, then you'll have to pay them back right away.

its a set amount based on TIS and grade. I t is given for the costs associated in setting up a new home, like a down payment on electric bill or phone service, ect
