AFSC (air force security forces) Active Duty or Reserves?

Hey everyone,
I'm looking to join the Military and would like a little help. The office I chose to help with my Enlistment pushed me through, and the night to ship out, my step-father had a heart attack. Now, they have a "Dep-Discharge" on my record.
I know the Discharge can be waived, as with most anything, but the office will not Enlist me. So I have researched and found a Reserve Recruiter who would like to enlist me. However, my intention is still Active Duty.
Are any of you in, or, know anyone in this particular situation who was able to join Active Duty? Please let me know, as i know other offices exist about 200 miles from where I am.
Recruiters: I notified the front desk clerk of my absence, and would have notified my recruiter, but the cell-phone was dead. may be able to pull his Medical record (with his permission).
If any office is willing to accept me, most of the preliminary work is done. All we would need to do is wait for the ship-date.

While I don't know of anyone in your situation I can tell you a couple of things. The Reserve program is a great program for some and I was in the Reserves for thirty years and half of that time on active duty because of my background and job. Security Forces are in great demand so you would be able to go on active duty fairly easily and stay on it quite a bit if you wanted to and are willing to take the assignments that are available or where they need people. Some of these are deployments overseas and others are here stateside back-filling those places that have people deployed. The Reserve program is different though so I would suggest you look at it in relation to what your intermediate and long range goals are and then make your decision on whether or not you want to try and get this straightened out and go active or go with the Reserve program. |
