SO MY FIANCE AND I HAVE BEEN ENGAGED FOR 6 MONTHS PLAN TO GET MARRIED IN AUG. HE HAS BEEN IN THE ARMY FOR 5 YEARS AND HAS BEEN DEPLOYED ONCE BUT HE HAS TO GO BACK IN FEB.. I KNOW ITS KINDA FAR AWAY BUT I HAVE NEVER DONE THIS BEFORE I WAS WONDERING IF THERE IS ANYTHING I CAN DO TO PREPARE MYSELF TO BE AWAY FROM HIM FOR A WHOLE YEAR? IM SOOO SCARED ABOUT IT!

Get a computer and a camera for the computer and you can use video chat with him, and/or talk through skype the army alows this (at least the base i was at) and it will be alright. Just make sure that you stay in contact so your not strangers when he comes back, and find something constructive to do or else you might get a little to bored.... |

I agree get a computer and web cam. Once you are married and have moved on base join the FRG- Family Readiness Group. They're a group of wive who work along side the unit to keep families informed about their loved ones as well as help each other out. Letters and emails are really important during deployments. He needs them and so do you. Do not worry you will not be alone. The FRG is a great way to meet and make friends with women who are in the same boat you are in. I wish you the best of luck. |

Get a job that keeps you really busy, or find a hobby. It is hard to be away and there really is not a way to prepare but you can do little things to keep him involved while he is gone. The web cam is a good idea, probably one of the best ways to get by when he is gone. I found out that I love scrap booking and that I could keep him involved by making pages of different things that I did while he was gone. I have a toddler so I would make pages of me and him going to the zoo and different little things that he can look at when he came home and even take with him if he ever has to go again. You will find things that work for you and that make it easier, it just takes some adjusting. While he is gone you can make friends that are going through the same things to talk to or go out to lunch with. |
