Advice re joining the Royal Navy please - any recruitment officers out there?...?
|
Bit of a long shot, but just wonderin if there any any recent people who have joined or possibly a recruitment officer could help me...
Just a couple of questions, my hubby is going through the initial application process, passed the psychometric test no probs, got his formal interview next week, just wondered if you could advise what they do in the medical/fitness test.
Basically, Ive been winding him up saying he will get a 'cough please' and a finger up his bum, and now he is getting all worked up about what to expect - my fault for teasing him, but I just wondered if anyone could explain what happens during his fitness test, or if he will ever have to have any of the 'intimate' examinations done?
Also, he is worried bout the interview next week, i told him that the recruiting officer wont expect him to know the whole histoy of the RN, but he is reading up anyway, are there any particular aspects of RN history he should be concentrating on - he is taking on the whole history at the moment, trying to remember dates. places, types of ships etc.....he is determined to pass, but I dont think he needs to know quite as much for the interview. He cant possibly cram a few hundred years of history into his head!
Any tips on the fitness/medical and formal interview would be appreciated.
Thanks!
xx

Lima Company - Royal Marines
 |
My medical for the Royal Marines consisted of
First of all he will strip down, to his underwear and put on a dressing gown thing. Then:
- Brief medical history (asthma, eczema, hayfever, etc, etc)
- Height
- Weight
- BMI check
- Reading of the eye test results
- Wink test (make sure you can wink both eyes, independently)
- Bend the knees
- Blood pressure levels
- Urine sample on a paper (its small and hard to hit the bit of paper with splashing yourself. haha)
- Hearing test
The fitness test is a treadmill 2.4km(1.5 mile) run and depending on his age he will have to complete it in a certain time, which for about 12:30+(depending on his age) you get 3 attempts at it if you fail it, but you have to wait like 2 months before a retest.
For the history I would look at:
- The Falklands war (look up about what ships were there and look up about HMS Sheffield, etc)
- The Ranks
- Key dates such as battle of Trafalgar, Operation Neptune and also the Falklands etc.
- Parts of the training, I got asked about what would i be doing on week 8
Sorry that I can't be much of help, but I gave it my best.
Good luck to him, just tell him to keep calm during the interview |
