And of course you want the support of your family! Be honest and open. Explain your reasons for joining - and be prepared for some negative feedback. Ask them to support you, even if they don't support the war.

Depending upon how good a relationship you have with your recruiter - ask them for tips.

But do remember that it is your decision.

You are an adult. If this is the right move for you then do it. The family will love you know matter what. Will they give you grief? they sure will, but they will get over it if they truly love you.

If it's anything like my family, once you tell your parents the rest of the family will know soon enough anyway. And when they ask, just tell them it's what you want to do.

My guess is your family will not only not hate you they will be very proud of you. I know in may family we are proud of our sons, our niece, our cousins, our nephews, our sister and our brother. We are also proud of our father. In this group we have 1 member of the air force, 1 member of the navy and the rest are marines. Be proud of yourself and stand tall you are a marine. If you want to be an adult , act like one. If family is close , they will support your decision. If they hate you because of your decision, then they were not much of a family to begin with. This is your decision alone to make. You can seek advice if you are not 100% sure, but in the end it is your decision to make regardless of what other people think.

don't worry about what they think. do it for yourself. Stay focused and you won't be sorry.

Retired Navy here, just take the proverbial bull by the horns and
git er done. Service folk are a bunch that are paying freedoms
dues -- there should be a good deal of pride in your family for
producing a "non-freeloader" ..

Really who cares what they think. You will have some that will be proud and others who resent you. Becaues you are doing something greater then they ever done. Good luck to you.

I would think someone old enough to be in the military
wouldn't be such a coward and would be proud to serve their country and proud to be a American and unafraid to tell family
If the family would hate you then they are the problem not your joining

if they would hate you for joining, you don't need them anyway. and that sounds harsh, but frankly you don't need to be bogged down by that kind of baggage.

it's your life, and you must be the one who decides what to do with it. it's really not their place to approve or disapprove. just like if you go work at a grocery store, they still don't have the right to look down on you. it would be silly of them to think they have a say just because it's the military. and if they hate the military, you should remind them that it's through the efforts of the military that they can sit safely in their homes and ***** about the military.

if that doesn't shut them up, you can just say, "look, i love yall and i was hoping that you'd love me enough to try to be open to the possibility that i'd thrive in the military, and that you'd want what is best for me. i guess i was mistaken, and i'm sorry that i assumed you really loved me as a person." if that doesn't shame them, then nothing will.

the same way you would tell them you want to go to college. No matter what your parents and the rest of your family should support you. I hope. But dont keep it a secret. Was anyone in your family military? They might and should be very proud of you. The Marines is a great decision. And one that not may want to make. You will become one of the elite. You will be one of the few and the proud.

i know what you feel like, but it's family- they'll probably respect and support your decision. I'm not the biggest fan of the war myself, but if on f my close friends/relatives turned around and told me they were gonna join the army, i would support 100%, it's honoring your country, and shows your courage and commitment.
