Air Force Question Help!?

I'm currently enlisted in the Air Force, I'm still in the DEP...now that I'm officially enlisted I don't know if it's what I want to do anymore. I don't want to pull out because that means I'm letting a lot of people down. Also because I can't really pay for school right now. At the same time, I don't know if I can handle being in the military. This could just be me being afraid...but I don't know if I want to take that chance.

If I pull out does that mean I can't join ever again? What do you think I should do?

You are not officially it he USAF, you are only in DEP. You are not officially enlisted until you take the final oath the day you leave for Basic. If you want to back out, just tell your recruiter. They will fuss a little, considering the time they ave put into you, but they have to release you from DEP if you ask to be released.

You can join again after leaving DEP. No worries. It is a personal decision and one only you can make.

I would say go for it the Air Force is defiantly one of the easier of the services so I doubt you will regret the decision of going in.

With that said you aren't technically officially in until you leave for MEPS to go to basic

What AFSC did you select I can tell you whether or not it's a cake walk or one of the more demanding career fields in the USAF to ease your anxiety over going in

Pulling out of the DEP program doesn't mean you won't ever be able to go back in again however it will look unfavorable in the eyes of the recruiter especially in this economy they won't want to process all the paperwork for someone who already backed out once unless you can truly convince them this time you are 100% dedicated or you had some life altering event (i.e. death in the family at the time you initially pulled out)

ATC is very stressful job however if you honorably serve it you can get snagged up by the FAA and make 100K a year you ask me that is worth the stress or reup and I think the reenlistment bonus is around 60k

Okay first off take a deep breath. At some point in time you really wanted to do this, is there something clouding that resolve you once had? Family? Friends?

Life is full of chances, I wouldn't say there is ever a bad choice if you learn from it. What else could you be doing with four years of your life? Now's the time to step out of your comfort zone and show yourself that YOU can do it.

Life is too short, don't let this decision be a "what if" later in life. Because those are the most painful to live with.

I think you need to muscle up and take responsibility for your actions. You are an adult and nobody forced you to sign up.

Just hang in there. You're just having a case of the nerves. After your training is over it's just like any other job.

If going to college is what you ultimately want to do, think of all the classes the Air Force is going to pay for you to attend. Don't let your course waiver.

You'll make it ok.

Well Noble there was a person with a similar question to yours that basically told them he did not want their clearance, did not think he could cut it and wanted out only to discover several months later that he could. I would urge you to try and stick it out as things will be hard for a while but keep telling yourself and that others such as yourself could do it and make it and so can you! Don't make the same mistake as that other person and shoot yourself and your military career in the foot here. Talk to your sergeant, the chaplin, some of the older, more wiser people that are currently over you that have some rank and I bet you will find a wealth of support and encouragement in you doing this. This is something that could affect your whole future and things don't always come easily or without work. Hang in there and six months to a year from now you will be glad you did I bet.

Mike
You need to address this with your recruiter. I believe you can still pull out of the DEP.

The AF isn't that difficult, only 6 weeks of basic then your tech school. After that, you get to your first base and it is pretty easy from there. The nerves are normal, I think we all get them.

The AF helped me grow up and got me going in a direction that I am glad to say has led me here to a job I love and have a lot of satisfaction with. I joined, made some great friends, did a lot of stuff I am proud of.

The military isn't for everybody and you invariably have to make the choice yourself. I wish you luck in whichever path you decide to take.

Thousands of young people like you made it, you will get experience that no one in McDonald's or Walmart can match. You will be able to get FREE education thru well known colleges and universities that have educational programs on bases, how can you say no to that?

You are in DEP, you are enlisted already. you already signed the contract, no, you can't change your mind now. Don't be afraid, the experience and respect you will get from the Air Force cannot be understated.

If I was your age, I would join all over again. Don't quit on yourself. There is nothing to fear, really, just fear itself. Good luck.
