If my boyfriend and I decide to get married.. how long will it take to be put on my husband's orders if we get married after his basic training? I dont want to get stuck a long time without him. I really want to do it before he goes in but I dont know if we will have enough time.

you would be considered a dependent as soon as you were married. if he was already through basic training, you would be able to accompany him to most technical schools, and to his first duty station. The only time you would not be able to be with him is if he received orders for a remote unaccompanied tour. |

Every situation is different. The best advice I can give you is the sooner the better. I know some people that it took months to get their wives overseas with them. My husband and I were married right when his tech school ended and I was able to drive with him to our first base since it was state side. It can take time for overseas because you have to get your passport before you can leave. Also if he gets there before you, chances are he will have to have tranportation and a house before they will let you go as well. So really there is no set answer. BUT if I were you and you plan on getting married you just dont know when, do it ASAP!!!! |
