Air force abu's and bdu's (uniforms)?

can someone explain to me at what given occasion you wear your ABU's and your BDU's

do you only wear the ABU's when you are deployed? (abu's are the army looking ones? lighter looking camo?)

and BDu's is what you wear when you are going to work? (bdu's are the dark jungle green color?)

It started out that the two uniforms you wore when stateside were your BDU (Battle Dress Uniform) and your Dress Blues.

At one time we were issued DCU (Desert Camo Uniform) to were on deployments. These are the light tan camo pattern that the Navy still wears. As of last year the Air Force has stopped the wear of the DCU's and will only permit wear of the ABU (Airman Battle Uniform) when deployed.

You are authorized to wear the ABU's as you would the BDU's when stateside. Come 2012 the Air Force will no longer allow the wear of BDU's and everyone will wear the ABU's.

We are in the midst of phasing out the BDU's as it is much simpler to wear the same uniform here and overseas.

Now you just have one uniform no matter where you are. They are the ABU's. BDU's are still ok but are being phased out. ABU's are awful and the bottoms don't match the top! But you no longer have to iron them!

ABUs are the only things issued for deploying..
