i am just about done with my second year of college, i have 2 left, not sure if im gonna join the reserve now or when im completely done with school...anyway i was wondering if anyone knew if i joined the air force reserve now or later, will the GI Bill or anything else help pay for college loans that i've already taken out?

* i know ill be eligible for the GI Bill in the reserve, i just wanna know if it can be used for college debt that is accumalated before joining the air force reserve.

Okay, you're talking about three different sets of benefits.

1. Student Loan Repayment. You'll have to talk to an Air Force recruiter about this, but I think it's around $20,000. Last I heard you could add more loans on to it as long as you got it in your contract but the maximum total was still 20k

2. GI Bill. The Reserves qualify for the Chapter 1606 GI bill after you complete your Basic and job training. It's a monthly paycheck (around $300) that can help offset school expenses. With your drill check and a possible kicker you may qualify for it, it's a decent little extra bit of money while you're in school.

3. Tuition Assisstance. The Federal Tution Assisstance is $4500 a year. If you join the Air Guard and are attending a state university, you may qualify for additional state tuition assisstance that will cover all of your tuition.
