Air force vs. marines?

benefits of both? family time? cons of both?

Wow... your comparing two vastly different ends of the spectrum there.... air force vs marines. Hard charging, hardcore devil dog Marines... and tastiest chow, prettiest bases, softest training Air Force.

Military benefits are the same across the board for all services, your retirement, your healthcare, all the same wherever you go. Aside from those kinds of things, the "benefits" of marines vs air force....

Benefits of Marines
You get to call yourself a Marine! Your among the hardest group of warriors to ever set foot on a battlefield. You've volunteered for and survived the most difficult training of any of the military services (apart from elite special forces units), and by the time your contract is up, have probably spent a lot of time in a war zone, face to face with people who tried to kill you. Your still here.... they're not.

Benefits of the Air Force
You get the best food in your chow halls that the military has to offer. You likely sweat less in your basic training than anyone else in uniform, and after basic, you probably won't see a weapon again unless you have to qualify at the range. You go to far less funerals of friends than your Marine counterpart.

Sorry to bang on folks in the Air Force, i LOVE the bombing raids and close air support the Air Force provides.... but, you can't honestly tell me the average airman can even hold a candle to the average ground pounding Marine.

righty
The Air Force pushes buttons, the Marines pull triggers. Both are the best at what they do.

Pay, education, occupation training, housing are going to be the same. Becoming a Marine will change you as a person for life. Depending on your occupation, you may be deployed 6 months out of every 18. The Air Force is more like a regular civilian job. Your kids can't brag that their parent is a Marine, but at least they get to see them more often.

Bob
Air Force is usually more of a technical job. Marines go to he fight to fight. Air Force take very good care of it's families.

Benefits are the same.

There is not much difference between a clerk in the Marines and a clerk in the Air Force.

There is not much difference between a avionics tech in the Marines than a avionics tech in the Air Force.

If you do the same job, there is really no difference.

lol. two different worlds entirely. like night and day. hard to compare.

thing i've heard the most complaints about is air force may station you in some isolated air station for years, hundreds of miles from any decent sized town.

I would definatley go for Air force. I go to meps this sunday for Air Force. If you have any questions about it i can answer them. In the marines, the can hit you during basic and th physical needs are a lot more demanding. I'm Air Force all the way bud.

depends on the individual
the marines is hardcore the air force isn't
but they both do a gd job

air force better training
marines more opportunity to kick butt

i know for the air force you have to pass a pretty intense intelligence quiz. marines take anyone. they need the cannon fodder.

I can't speak for the marines, but I know both branches have benifits.

The Air Force ofcourse has health benifits, educational benifits. A lot of times if you have a family they will send you to a duty station that allows you to bring them a long. Most deployments last at most for 6 months, which I believe the marines is longer.

I'm sure this goes for any military branch, but a lot of times you may be working long hours, a lot of TDY's or deployments. Military is one of the hardest places to have a family, but there is great support to make it happen.

George P
It all depends on what you are wanting. If you are just looking at family time, then the Air Force would probably be your better bet. Both branches do deploy, the Marines do it a little more often and for longer times.
Depending on the job, I know smart Marines, that work on the same equipment that i do.

Not all Marines are the dumb cannon fodder, the ones I work with are pretty smart.

If you are looking for more technology, then Air Force would be the way to go.

Croaker
if you have family i would think the Air Force would be better...

I saw a lot of broken families in the marines....I think because we were deployed a lot on hops or tours etc.

Future Marine005
The air force are mainly engineers who fix planes an helicopters. Only about 8% are active duty pilots. So, you might be going on a boat somewhere or you could stay at a base in the states, but you would have more of a chance of going far away in the Marines. The Air force has more benefits and pays more for college too.

From military knowledge, I have to go for the marines as I did serve the Air Force and it is a woose of a military., while the marines are tough guys.

pain_is_just
Marines - you work your *** off for very little personal time, or acknowledgment. But you have the pride of going first, and the training that superceeds army rangers. You have a wide range of job opportunities, and the 'community' aspect is one of the best. Once a Marine, always a Marine.
Air Force - you do very little and get a lot of breaks. However, you can get very bored, and since not everyone is a pilot in the air force, you will probably get stuck with a job like pencil pusher, or mechanic. It depends, if you have bloodlust - join the marines. if are a natural slacker and just want the benefits - join the air force.

What?!
It depends on the job you do. There are Marine admin(POGS) people who never set foot into a combat zone. Sure they go to Iraq and Afghanistan but they sit at a desk at a big base, with the worst risk being hit by a stray motar. They really don't even rate the title Marine. Air Force aka Chair Force. Ummmm I never saw any of their guys. I was to busy in Iraq and Afghanistan conducting foot patrols winning the war. I think they fix the airplanes that bring us our mail. SEMPER!!!!!
