Al Udeid Air Base, Qatar Security Forces?

Have any anybody from Security Force been there or any other job. What is the mission over there and what are some of the things that place got to offer. Is there anybody going there around August last thing how hot does it get

I have been there many times as well as spent time there while waiting to head north to Kuwait and Iraq. It is a nice assigment as far as that goes for that part of the world. You can even get a beer or a drink there but are limited to two per day so most people go for the Fosters since it is a 25 ounce can as opposed to a 12 ounce can for other beers. The smell during the spring and summer months can be pretty rank in some parts of the base since it borders an old sewage plant that is to small for the base and surrounding community that it serves. There was a push to make it a joint assignment and I believe they have for E-7 through E-9 and O-4 and above but I am not sure if they did that. The humidity is a little higher there so the 100-112 degrees temperatures can make it a little more uncomfortable in some ways unlike the dryer heat of Kuwait where the humidity is much lower but temperatures much higher. You are only about 70 miles from a huge tourist and resort area that you will be able to make use of from time to time when you have a three day pass, leave or R and R for and want to book a stay at. Since the foot print in Kuwait has been reduced it is now the jumping off point basically for going north into Iraq so they have a lot of transient personnel. You will be busy there in Security Forces because of this and all the flightline activity but it is much better than being up north.

I was in Qatar on a pass in 06. It was hot as ****, in comparison to my prior pacific northwest lifestyle. You'll get used to it though if you deploy to that part of the world. Takes about a week (two at most). August is still hot. If memory serves me right, it cools down around mid-late november. I was in Iraq though, just in Qatar for like 3 days or something.
