I've read loads of comparisons of the US marines Vs Nazi SS in which case I have to say the Nazi SS are better. While all special forces have best equipment the Nazi SS were proven to be significant against European and Russian forces. The Americans still struggle trying to hold down Islamic insurgents. European empires have proven by crushing entire continents and holding them under an iron fist. No comparison.
So my personal opinion is for modern forces it must and can only be the SAS. There has been an observation made by mercenary companies in Iraq, American forces have a mentality to have moral obligations to be the 'good guys' which isn't a cultural concern for Britain's imperialistic background that by far has a harder discipline culture. Americans sing and are noisy when they march, Brits are told to shut it because the enemy can hear you and snipe (Vietnam anyone?). So its hard to say, for hardness of mentality, proven field operations (SAS victorious over SS) etc... Must be Britain.
Before you give your opinions consider mentality of difference between each nations forces. Looking forward to sensible comparisons and opinions. No patriotic BS please!

for that time Era, the SS were extremely powerful and well trained, they also had better weapons.
SAS is pretty powerful as well. One thing to consider when comparing Special Operational Forces is that they have different specialties in combat. For example, the Army Special Forces or Green Berets are the best when it comes to fighting counter terrorism. The SEALS are best for direct action missions such as raids and assualts. The Air Force's Pararescue are best when it comes to rescueing downed or captured pilots. The rangers are perhaps the best strike force in the world as infantry units. |

The other day I was out walking around in the forest... and I nearly got ambushed... but those damned Delta guys were singing while they snuck up on me in the trees.
It was a good thing they couldn't keep their mouths shut.
PS I'm pretty sure the SS had a different view of Marines.
Besides which, neither SS nor USMC are special forces by any definition of the term... but then it's not like the rest of your bs makes any sense either.

The Marines are not special forces. They are a SPECIALIZED conventional force.
Europeans empires have proven by crushing entire continents and holding them under an iron first..until the Americans arrived my friend (see WW1, WW2, Cold War).
The Americans and the British train and fight side by side buddy. We are just bigger, but equally trained.
As for a harder British "Imperialistic" culture, your imperialism stopped with our nation forming. America was founded in War, and has pretty much always be in some conflict or War since then. |

Israeli secret service is said to be one of the best, you also can't forget the french foreign legion. both are trained specifically to get the job done with no bs no glory all business. american special forces are well trained but i agree that america always has to "look" like the good guy even when we're pushing our values on people who want nothing to do with us |
