It's Hollywood. If you believe the BS from Hollywood then America won both WW1 & WW2, didn't need a helping hand in Korea and didn't run away from Vietnam with their tails between their legs.
In a few years Hollywood will portray America as the victors in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Hugh Grant is always placed in a pathetic Brit. casting role. I've always thought him to be one of the more feminine men in acting, those sorts of men that have it between the legs, but don't have any testosterone to back it up.

Its not really a bad stereo type per say, i think its cool to hear accented english. but yeah pearl harbor is a dumb movie and brits don't all have bad teeth. Really i think its just kinda a friendly poke in the ribs, aye ol chap?

As an American I would say that most Americans do not understand British culture or manners so there is much confusion about it.

We were called the Allies for a reason. There were three major players in WWII as far as the 'good guys' go: The UK, The Soviets, and the US.

No one saved anyones arses, as if just one of those nations had left WWII would have been lost.

80% of Nazi soldiers who died died fighting the Soviets. And if it wasn't for British inventions such as the Spitfire, the Roles Royce Merlin engine etc. WWII would have been lost.

Many countries were involved in WWII and yet as far as I can tell the US is the only one which claims (Falsely) to have won it single handedly, although I know only an unintelligent few from your country think this way.

If I hear one more 'we saved your asses' I am going to scream. And tell them that they are unintelligent morons. Which is true.

Hey John -- I am as American as they come. I just don't think that what you say is the case.

Granted I have been to the UK twice, but when I think of a typical british bloak -- I don't think of Hugh Grant as your male ambassador -- nor does the term pansy come to mind. Quite the opposite in fact. Lets face it, Sean Connery is the ultimate Mans man.

Come on -- I think of some of my British friends. I don't think your giving us the credit we deserve. Your stereotyping us. What about Michael Bisping, Ricky Hatton or Lennox Lewis -- they are all about as hard core and tough as they come! Not to mention Bear Grylls!

I'm not trying to say I think they are all UK guys are tough guys either, Take Hugh Laurie and Mark Addy -- they are huge sitcom stars in the US.

I think most American's view British guys the same way you view British guys. They come in all shapes and flavors. I never hear the Brits getting stereotyped or pigeon holed. Nope -- We pretty much focusing our attention on making fun of the French.... :-)

When I look at old B&W photos of my Dad that served during WW2 and his mates, they didn't look particularly cool. They looked a bit comical really in their tin hats and 'hairy mary uniforms'. They also drank lots of tea LOL - a point that the Yanks like to pick up on. But, when you're winning, who cares? Our forces did a great job and that's all that matters.

Pearl Harbour (the movie) was only a movie that was made to entertain the masses - and I think it does entertain with it's brilliant special effects and battle scenes. It was not meant to be a factual documentary and was full of add-ons that didn't actually happen.

Don't move to America. It is a horrible place (I know from experience living there). Yes, Americans have stereotypes of Britons, but they aren't really bad stereotypes. Americans mostly feel that Britons are only historically "bad".

As an alternative, move to Canada. It's a wonderful place.

That's a Hollywood film not the real world, but come to think of it back in the nineteen forties the officer class types did speak with plums in their mouth, also dental treatment would have actually been pretty poor in those days.

As for Americans having a low opinion of the Brits, I live in Texas and I am originally from Yorkshire, and apart from the fact that some Texans think I am either Scottish, Australian or Irish, you name it anywhere but England, they are the most friendly and respectful people I have ever come across and have nothing but praise and interest for the British.

Some people ask things that you would consider stupid but that's due to the very limited amount of coverage of what it is really like in the UK, and to be quite honest with you I would prefer the Hollywood image than the real one when you think about what some British are like these days and the unbelievably backward way that some sections of UK society now speak.

But don't take my word for it, come see for yourself ya'll!!!

I am American and watch those movies. I do not however take them as true when I watch them, I view them as just that a made up movie written by someone with a clever imagination who has nothing better to do. I wouldn't take it to heart. I am sure there are alot of others out there that agree they don't view the British that way. :) I don't think they are deliberatly trying to mock you.

pearl harbors main character is ben affleck therefore it cant be a good movie

to the guy above me, we did win WW2, we have won in Iraq and Afganistan is still being fought, no one claimed we won WW1 we just diddent lose it, get an education dumbass
