ok what could I do about it? i do not run the country. average citizens were not asked their opinion. Our opinions do not influence government's decisions. The American government stopped listening to us a long long time ago..... |

Afraid of a 70 year old man?
Who, when he was merely a feeble 60 year old, was able to manage to kill 200,000 people?
You are truly ignorant.
Tell you what, you come to Michigan, where our biggest population of Muslims live - they are celebrating out in the streets. MANY of them have lost a family member to Saddam's regime.
The Iraqi government DID hang them. The Americans did not interfere.
Or did you forget that this is the same group of people who have been cutting off hands and feet for things like shoplifting?
Take your peacenik, Beatles albums and weed elsewhere. |

Heck yeah... And he deserved it... Why does he deserve to live when he was solely responible for so many meaningless deaths?? |

Age does not turn a criminal into an innocent human. Blaming America for every thing will not solve anything either. We let the Iraqis try, convict, and deal with him how they deemed necessary. We knew that no matter what, people like you would blame us for his death so why would we want him to be executed? It would have been in our best interest not to do that but we can not stand in the way of letting Iraq punish their criminal. |

Man it was right to take his life, i would take anyones life who hurt anyone of my family. and he killed many and thousands of people who had a family as they say eye for an eye. |

I am here right now you gutless wonder.......
Come on over here and try your bleeding heart stupidity on someone who cares....
The Iraqi Government tried and sentenced him.
You are an uninformed radical that might actually fit in with these radical fundamental terrorists..
Too bad they'd kill you within 48 hours of stepping off the plane.
...and it would be someone like me that would be charged with trying to stop the bullet personally from killing you.... |

It was Saddam who got himself hanged for murdering thousands of Kurds. He was tried and convicted by the Iraqui people, not Americans. |

Saddam Hussein is a brutal dictator, alright. He deserved to be hanged. But there are still a lot of brutal dictators in power today, and the U.S. doesn't do anything about them. There was a point in the past when the U.S. was even secretly supplying Saddam with weapons in Iraq's war against Iran (have seen the picture of Rumsfeld shaking hands with Saddam Hussein?). Somehow, the U.S. foreign policy is quite absurd. The U.S. support someone at one moment, then turn against him the next moment. The worst thing is that the U.S. know that some third-world country's leader is a brutal and corrupt dictator, but continue to support him for the sake of "freedom and democracy" (Pinochet is one example).
Is the U.S. really fighting to spread freedom and democracy to the world, or is it only after its global interests?. That's too plain to see. |

You are naive. The Iraqis ran the show. There was not a single American in that courtroom during the ENTIRE TRIAL!
It was their show!!!
They held the trial.
They decided his guilt or innocence.
The decided whether he should live or die.
They decided when he should die.
They decided how he should die. (He requested to be shot..)
His dance at the end of a rope will provide comfort to that country to no end. Iraqi people will be dancing in the streets for days now because most people still feared his comeback could happen. With his death, they now know that he can never hurt them or kill their beloved family members ever again.
He's having a cup of coffee with al-Zarqui and The Devil right about now... |

You call upon Americans as though you hate us!
How much better are you than Saddam with your attitude of hate towards America or any country or person? This is the kind of attitude from people that cause chaos in the world today. It is called HATE!
Do you think we are cowards? If so why has the bearded one in Afghanistan been hiding for so long? Why was Saddam hiding?
Let me tell you! They are cowards. After all did America not suffer enough with 9/11?
Maybe you are a coward. The truth be know you are insignificant.
This is not meant to be insulting it is sincerely an effort on my part to understand your way of thinking!
Maybe I should thank my GOD that I don't because maybe then I will hate. |

Yes it was all America. Thank you for setting me straight. What was I thinking when I thought that a group of people who are killing each other by the thousands just because they are a different sect of the same religion could be capable of handing out the death penalty. The parties in the streets of Baghdad were planned by Americans also. We probably paid them to fire guns and dance in the streets with joy. Who would have ever guessed that Iraqi's were all such good actors. I think that if most of them had there way his death would have been much more painful and much more drawn out.
Yeah we could have kept him and not allowed the newly formed Iraqi government to try him for his crimes. Yes we could have refused to turn him over for hanging. But do you really want us to get more involved in other countries governments than we already are. |

You are certainly entitled to your opinion, no matter how uninformed or dismissive of actual events it may be. The Iraqis carried out the trial and handed down the sentence. Could America have stopped his execution? Probably, but then there would be people accusing us of again unnecessarily interfering in the internal affairs of another nation. Try to understand this, Saddam Hussein committed atrocities against his own people and he well deserved his punishment. The rest of the world can second guess the punishment and will, but I doubt very seriously if many Iraqis are shedding tears for that madman today. |

Why should we show mercy for the merciless? When it's your country that Saddam torched and burned to the ground (Kuwait). When it's your brothers and sisters that he tortured, raped and murdered. When it's your mother who waited for your brother for 15 years to come back from IRAQ after being captured by Saddam's army. When it's you that has to keep your brothers room clean and hang the new clothes your mother buys for him in case he comes back. In the end to have to turn in DNA samples because there is nothing left of your brother but a pile of dust and a wallet with an id card. When that match is made a shoe box has to be buried with the ashes of what used to be your brother. Then ask me if his execution was right or not. I am a Kuwaiti/American. America did what any one else would do in the same situation. They let the government of the country they are trying to help stand on its own. America is not scared of anyone. That's why so many are jealous. I am proud to be AMERICAN. I am proud of what America has done and is trying to do. I just wish it hadn't taken so long and i wish that so many of our American brothers and sisters didn't have to die and will die for the freedom of a country thats not worth saving. They are heroes and will never be forgotten. |

Thats very easy for you to say considering your tax dollars were not paying for the former dictators meals, health care, and over all living expenses. And also, it was not an American court that sentenced him to death, but an Iraqi court. I don't care what you believe, how does America show support for the Iraqi government if it doesn't comply with that governments wishes just like it would any other nations. If he had been killed by americans, it probably would've been done the american way of lethal injection, we stopped hanging people several decades ago. |

Taking a life never justifies taking another life. No matter how bad Saddam was, I feel bad for the old man. Maybe he got what he deserved. I don't know. But I'm just sick over it--splashed all over the front of Yahoo news like it's some kind of festival. A man was killed today. A notorious man. An evil man. But a man none the less. When will people learn that killing never solves anything? Violence is never the means to an end. |

Do you have proof that we had influence in his hanging did you forget we can't do what we want, if that was the case then we would have went over there with full force and taken over Iraq don't forget about the UN being involved it this issue too. I guess it is easy for someone like you to blame us American for everything that is happening. Have you been over and see what is really happening? |

I feel sad that we had to hang him. I say we because his death is on all of us. We vote so we take responsibilty. I know he was a bad man and did some very terrible things but I think hanging is wrong and won't prove anything. He should've just rotted in prison. |

Honestly, don't try to blame all Americans, because the people don't really have much say, as much as people like to believe to the contrary. The government just goes on it's business and doesn't listen. Unfortunately, I think those people who actually vote, most don't think. I mean HELL, one of the mayors of WASHINGTON, D.C. (yes, the capital), was convicted for cocaine possession... and the people reelected him. I don't think Hussein should have been hung, but then again, I'm just one person. I would have done something different though, like leave a rope and a chair in his prison cell, just in case he couldn't stand it anymore. LOL And if you don't believe me about the government ignoring the people, look closely at polls and whatnot, and examine who took it, the ages of those polled, regions, etc. Oh, and you COULD also talk to someone who works in a not-so-important section of the government, who's willing to talk truth. |

I can't believe anyone is asking this. Do you have eyes and ears? Saddam was tried by Iraqis, and given Iraqi justice.
So if I rape, pillage and burn and kill in your town, then get caught at 70 you feel I should not have to pay for my crimes? AYRTS! |
