An absolute hero in the best sense of the word his selfless act saved 4 of his brothers in arms. I just got out of the army last April and I have been to Iraq twice and Afghanistan once I saw this story on the news today and it brought tears to my eyes. FOR ALL OF YOU WHO WANT TO SPEAK FOR OUR TROOPS ... SHUT THE F*CK UP BECAUSE YOU HAVEN'T BEEN THERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

One of the ballsiest thing a man can do. Without hesitation, risking his life to safe his fellow soldiers. Medal of Honor for sure! This is the kinda sh*t that makes me proud to live in this country. Excellent story and thanks to McGinnis and all the other troops
Agree, hero for sure |

I was watching his parents talk about him on the news today and reading about him, its interesting that most people would have labeled him some punk kid cause if his problems when he was young and he goes above and beyond for his brothers. So yeah he is a hero in my book.
Semper Fi SPC Mc Ginnis see you up there Brother |

Thank you for paying tribute to a man that truly deserves it.
I cried when I heard the story yesterday; I haven't heard of such bravery in decades.
SEMPER FIDELIS, Specialist Ross McGinnis ~ God bless you! ~
p.s. White Rose...you are a F*CKING C*NT! STOP using this young soldier's grave as your political stump! |

He deserves the Medal whole-heartedly.
He saved four other men without thinking that he would be instantly killed. He didn't care if he got a medal or not when he did it he just wanted to save the people around him.
He's looking down on his brothers from heaven now at least.
to WHITE ROSE : any people (not just young) who join The Military are not being sent to their deaths. They willingly joined and aren't even dying as much as you are saying they are.
And to ROB : Just because you're an American Citicizen doesn't mean you get to insult this man who died in a war that he believed in and for what he believed in. I know many people, including family, who have died for this country and never were citizens. So please, you don't deserve to be an American Citizen more than they do, and you should really just shut your ignorant mouth. |

His action prove what a true hero is in the Military and he deserves the respect and recognition the award brings for his sacrifice. He's also a wonderful reminder that despite what many may think of the "me generation" there are kids who are willing to lay it all down for something bigger than themselves when there are people twice their age who wouldn't be so brave. May he rest in peace and may God bless his family. |

I absolutely agree that SPC McGinnis was a hero....and I don't see how anybody can believe otherwise. Even if you're against the war and the president and regardless of your beliefs on military service, one can't deny that this brave young man was a hero not only to the soldiers that he saved but also to the rest of this grateful nation for going beyond the call of duty.
I saw a news report about his MOH ceremony and they interviewed his injured SSG who he had saved. It was very touching....the SSG said "Why did my soldier die in my arms? Why wasn't it me instead?" Clearly, SPC McGinnis was thinking only of the safety of his comrades when he acted so bravely.
Rest in peace, Soldier. |

I hope Dunham and McGinnis are living it up together in the after life!! They both deserve it ten times over...I can only wish that if I were put in that type of position, I would have acted as selfless as those two did. To save your brothers and/or sisters in arms at you own risk must be the most noble thing you could ever do in my eyes. I am very proud of these two and of all service people that have fought the fight!! I totally agree he is a new American Hero!!
An OOHRAH from me,
and a HOOAH for SPC MgGinnis |

God Bless him and RIP... he truely is a hero. these days you dont see that happining much often. people tend to only care about themselves and whats going on in there lives only. He truely deserves that medal. I think it is better to die trying to save someone that to have walked away and not have tried at all. one day my husband was coming home from a duty run and came upon a car over turned the driver was dead and others injured he said as he stood there that cars past and neighbors stood in distance nobody cared to do help or do anything for these people in trouble...so you see by SPC. Mc Ginnis protecting these other soldiers gives me hope that their are still some people out there that would help the people that are in danger and gives me hope that maybe people do still have some good in them. SPC. Mc Ginnis should be an inspiration for all....God Bless and God Bless the family..... |

That's too bad. That guy sounds like he had big enough balls to be in the Marines. (salute) |

I've heard of him before, and If I'm not mistaken he was awarded the silver Star as well. I mean, yeah the medal of honor is great. But I would much rather have him, still on this earth. And the same goes for every brave soldier that has died in this unnecessary and tragic war. |

Actually, it depends on what he was thinking at the time of his heroic act. Was it a christain belief? or Wanting to be remembered as a hero. I GUESS WE WILL NEVER KNOW........... |

First thing first, SPC Mcginnis was a soldier, which means he was in Army, not the stinkin marines!!! Secondly, i can tell you exactly what thoughts were running through his mind when he jumped on the grenade "my buddies are going to die and I can do something to save them." And I agree with you whole heartedly that SPC Mcginnis proved to America like many before him that freedom is worth dying for.
HOOAH!!!! Spc. Mcginnis, Enjoy Fiddler's Green, you've earned it. |

The White Rose
 |
He was *very* brave but he didn't die for "freedom".
He died for NOTHING.
If that enrages you, go yell at GW Bush, not me.
Don't make a mockery of the real meaning of his death by wrapping it in a LIE or this "semper fi" nonsense.
This isn't a John Wayne movie. Young people are being sent to their death for no good reason. |
