An unusual live-in nanny question?

My best friend just found out that he will be stationed in Germany (us army) for the next three years. He currently has full custody of his daughter and doesn't want to leave her here in the states. He threw around the idea of me coming with him as a live in nanny. My question is how is that (or is that) possible if im not a "dependent" of his?

If I am not in the DEERS system would that mean if I went with him, I'd have to get permission from Germany (i.e. a visa). Does that mean I'd have to go back and forth regularly to the U.S. because of immigration laws? What would be the best way (besides marrying him) to go with him?

it IS doable and yes you would be covered under SOFA and allowed to stay in the country as if you were a regular Military dependent. BUT you would NOT actually BE one.. so your access to base facilities would be limited.. no medical care for instance, and you could only shop for the child especailly rationed goods.

you could live in base housing with them.

You would most likely have to apply for a work visa for a three year term.

good questions... i dont know, but he should! or just call his commander's office anonymously and ask. Ultimately, he'll have to get permission from his commander anyways, so u can ask if u'd like. just say, "I want to get some information for clarification for a loved one who is being deployed. I'd rather not give his name at this time though, if you dont mind sir." i'm sure he'll tell u the process.
