Anyone know anything about a DD214?

I need one for my new job to prove I am in the military. They won't take a copy of my orders, and my squadron is saying they don't have one made for me. I just need something to prove my active duty dates of service and character (hornorable, etc) Where else can I go to get one of those damn things. It is the only thing holding me back from moving to texas and starting a new job on time.

confirmed.. It is your discharge papers. Once you get out of the military it pretty much becomes the most important document in your life.

To my knowledge a DD214 would be your discharge papers showing your length of service what branch, rank and etc plus type of discharge from service if your still in the service as you say show your military ID

They are right you will not get a DD214 until you discharge. If this job is so intent on you having one, they should know that. Ask them if they will accept a letter from your CO about your time in, character, dates and such.

Go to the Veterans Administration website. There is a provision for production of a DD214 in an on-line request form. It should only take a week or so to get the document. However, there might be some difficulty if you haven't been discharged yet. Look into it - the VA can handle your requirements. Good luck!
