Anyone know the distance capabilities of Pakistan's Nuclear war heads?

Can they reach any part of the USA? If so, which locations are vulnerable? I'm interested because recently I have read news reports that the Taliban fighters were moving closer to the Capitol of Pakistan. It has also been suspected that the Pakistan Government is weak and impotent to the threat.

As far as I know, Pakistan's longest range missile system is the Hatf VI (Shaheen II) with a range of 2000 km -- not far enough to reach the US. Pakistan's main focus is theater ballistic missile systems since their primary security concern is India. ICBMs are technologically too advanced and seen as strategically irrelevant.
Since 9/11, the US has been working with Pakistan to increase security of its nuclear weapons for the reasons you mentioned (political instability and threat of extremists gaining access). Their weapons are relatively well secured -- although there could be improvements. They are guarded by the Army, stored separately from their delivery systems, and spread throughout the country. I believe that Pakistan's nuclear weapons are also equipped with PALs, a lock that requires a code to be input before they can be detonated. Under the Bush Administration, the US government also confirmed that they have contingency plans in place in case of an Islamic coup in Pakistan. |

Pakistan's missiles probably are only medium-range, since there primary enemy is neighboring India.
Pakistan's army is very highly trained and motivated. I believe they are waiting for the national government to cave in to the demands of the Taliban or for the Taliban to move closer to Islamabad and/or closer to the location of the missiles before they finally step in and re-take over the government.
Some countries just operate better under military rule, and Pakistan is a good example of that. |

They don't posses the rocket engine technology to send a nuclear war head to the United States. As someone else has mentioned, their first target would probably be India.
This is besides the fact that we probably know how many they have and where they keep them. If there was even the slightest chance that a nuclear weapon would be hijacked in Pakistan, you bet your @ss that we would take action. |
