Are 0317 Marine Scout/Snipers or 0326 Force Recon Allowed to customize or purchase weapons?

I've always seen Marines on CNN or other places use various attachments on their weapons. Now can you purchase your own weapons. I understand you will have the same resrtictions that any civilan would have but, if so are weapons or attachments purchased privately or through your unit's armorer or quatermaster?

NO.....and here is why......
Here is how the military sniper got his weapon....

Some very intelligent people looked at the potential missions.....and determined what characteristics a weapon would need to complete those missions

A project officer compiled a list of performance characteristics this weapon must have ( operate under this condition, at this range, with this abilities etc)

Around the nation various companies got these specifications and developed a weapon to meet or exceed those parameters

Then the weapon was tested...... both in the laboratory and in the field

We then developed the repair parts and the other support materials

Literally millions if not billions of dollars were spent to get you the BEST weapon to do the job.....

If the military allows you to buy your own weapon.....it may or may not work in all your missions.....there will not be a support system for your weapon.....??? What makes you so sure YOU know more than all these other experts??).....If you modify the governments weapon.....will it work in all potential applications.... will your modifications endanger others......if you are killed will anyone else be able to use your rifle

Anyone can purchase and own any weapon they wish if they comply with existing laws.....BUT you will not be allowed to use your personal weapon on military missions.....you will not be allowed to modify the governments weapon under penalty of the UCMJ

No. This isn't Call of Duty 4. This is the Marines. If you think it's going to be like a video game don't even try to join because you will be rudely awakened and you will go through the worst 4 years of your life.

The weapons you will be issued will work just fine. There are many limitation to which you can customize a weapon. Many of which are punishable under the Uniform Code of Military Justice.
