I heard a lot of people are doing this because of the less than ideal economy. Any truth in this and if so, is this increasing standards for recruiting?

Perro De Lava: You are correct for the most part, however, the Marines are looking to increase their total number of troops by a few thousand near 2012. The interesting part, is they are ahead of schedule due to the large interest in the military.
There is a huge interest in the Military right now. To be fair, the Navy has reached its enlistment goal for 2009 before the first quarter was up. First quarters consists of the first 3 months of the year!
In 2008 the Air Force enlisted 38,000 NEW recruits! 200 of which were prior service. If you are looking to join, do it soon; the enlistment process is going to get harder each year the economy tanks. |

yes this is true. people are waiting months tog o basic training. all the branches are backed up. |

Nope,
The same number that were allowed to enlist last year,
Will be allowed to enlist this years.
It just means more people want to enlist, so they can be more selective. |

More than likely because of a lack of jobs in the nation.
There's always a job in the military, of course it's not for everyone.
They upped the standards yrs ago, especially the Air Force..which has always allowed only high school grads and college grads....the Army might have also changed their standards too, I don't know. |
