3 dead pirates can't be wrong!

And remember they were on the open sea with the ships rolling in the waves. Pretty amazing shots if you ask me. I'm glad I'll never find myself on the other end of their reticle. |

A few seconds is more than enough time. |

With the scopes, training, and high powered rifles that exist, not a problem. |

Being in the Army, I'm going to have to admit this will be a great recruiting tool for the Navy. Or it will make pirates think twice before hijacking Americans. |

I read it was also at night. So they sniped in the dark, which I would imagine is also very difficult. They also fired simultaneously. They are trained really well. I think it was great display of American strength. |

Dude, think about it. Obviously they are.
Edit: There were 3 snipers who took out 3 pirates. The pirates weren't in plain view. The SEALS saw enough of them to hit them. Nothing against the snipers but they weren't on the rolling sea, It was relatively calm. It wasn't at night, it was during the day. |

From the distance that they were, to quote a Fox News reporter..."that shot was a lay up". It could possibly be argued that marine snipers are the best. However, the SEALs provide more flexibility for that given situation. All military sniper teams are that good given an equal test of skill. |

The pirates were being towed to calmer waters on purpose, and the Bainbridge was reeling them in closer so they'd be able to take advantage of any opening like if Capt. Phillips tried to swim free again. The Bainbridge would be relatively steady due to its size.
Snipers train to hit a target over 1000 meters away. Army trains to hit targets 300m away without a scope. Marines train to hit targets 500m away. Pop up targets we train on only come up for a few seconds at the 50m range.
SEALs would consider 25m easy with scopes. Even with night scopes. They would have been trained on the boat looking for any opening all the time. |

Darn right! They are considered the ne plus ultra for a reason. |

You best believe they're that good. Because they are. Amen. |

One shot one kill. Economical shooting. |

They probably had more snipers than pirates. They only had to wait for all 3 to be in the crosshairs at the same time. It was a waiting game, with lots of patience required and unwavering attention. No problem for SEALs. |

they are so good; their training makes them take everything into consideration--waves, air speed, distance, even their breathe; they hold their breathe and bam! the bad guy is dead--head shot and all is okay, however I am not sure how they can psychologically deal with the numerous deaths or if they ever will.
Women seals?, not sure if that is possible, not being "a male chauvinist or macho" but the training (some guys can't even deal with it so they give up) is so structured (to endure anything, and I mean anything---physical and emotional) so not sure if they would fit in.
My friend did it all; he is now with the FBI not sure where or his post.
but what is true, is that once a SEAL always a SEAL |

Yes, navy and other military snipers ARE that good. So am I.
You have to study the movement and anticipate. For a good sniper, movement is not a deterrent to success.
EDIT: thanks to 'joseph' I am going to qualify; I am that good at 200 meters and not bad at 500. Can't yet do 1,000. Oh well...
Yes, 'Lion', there are women snipers. Why so surprised? :D I suppose I'd be better with practice and training, but scoliosis keeps me out of the military. I practice as much as I can, though. Shoot, you never know when or if it'd ever be needed here on our home turf, but...
2nd EDIT: I didn't lie. I said I was not in the military. There are women who have sniper skills and some of them are in state militias. I am NOT, I repeat again, in the Army. I am currently deciding whether or not to join the militia. |
