Are gay people accepted into the Royal Marines?

Im thinking of joining up the marines in a year (uk royal marines) as i come from a family with a lot of military service, grandad was in tank corps in ww2 in middle east, my old man was a para in iraq just left, uncle served in the navy on a ship during balklands, think he got burnt, other grandad was also in the navy, so i really want to join up, keep the tradition going if you will thing is, no offense to army, but apart from the para's, i dont really wanna join a basic squaddie unit, as the royal marines have preety much prestige reputation, im 22 and gay, so, do you think i would get a lot of abuse from fellow recruits and officers during training?

The law says that you can but realistically, I think you'd have to put up with a fair bit of unfair aggravation.

You'll get ribbed for it a lot, believe me- but as long as you act professionally other recruits will see you as another Marine who may one day safe their life, and not 'the only gay in the village,'

i think human rights declaration states you can do anything you want regardless of orientation and not forgetting work rights , whether you would be personally accepted is a deifferent matter you would have to speak to someone local about that , although i dont think bullying would happen and why should they find out anyway? xxxxx

Yep... as others have said, you might want to keep it quiet anyway. Training will be hard as f*ck anyway, without the added bonus of getting more verbal from your oppo's for being gay.
Once you're out of training, the attitude of ninety-nine percent of people will be of the value of 'can he take a joke about it?' and 'can I rely on this guy in combat?' What you do beyond that is not really anyone's business.

Frankly, if you're looking to join the RM, you ain't the public perception of a gay bloke anyway.

Could I suggest that you post a question about this on the website called Rum Ration? The people who post on there are both current and ex-forces, principally from the RN and RM, and they can give you an accurate picture. Some of them are gay too. They will also give you advice on applying to join, as some of them are Recruiting Officers for the Royal Marines and Royal Navy.

I would also strongly recommend a website to you called Proud2serve, which is specifically for the gay community in the British forces. They have a forum too on which you will get a great deal of encouragement and support.

Apparently you can in the UK and Israel, and I'm sure many other countries, but not in the USA - land of the almost but not quite free, and home of the brave.

The English military has a 0 tolerance stance against bulling, you should be fine, and yes you can join.
