The Navy supplies Corpsmen to the Marine Corps because the Marine Corps is a department of the Navy (the MEN'S DEPARTMENT.. hahahaha). As such, we are paid by them, driven to the fight by them and patched up by them. Corpsmen are our shipmates.

Corpsmen live with their Marines in the FMF. They do most everything their Marines do, meaning they go everywhere and train with them, but not always on the Marines' specific MOS - although there are exceptions to that. We trained our Corpsmen to run our crew-served weapons, they carried some of our gear, they did as much with us as we would let them because the simple fact is when it all goes horribly wrong we wanted him to be able to function as a member of the platoon if need be. We trained him on our tools, he trained us on his - mutually beneficial relationship.

In the Infantry every platoon has their own Corpsman. I can't speak for non-03 MOS' but it is my recollection that their Corpsmen were more Battalion-level, meaning they worked in the Battalion Aid Station (BAS) and didn't live with their Marines or train with them.

Corpsmen don't go to USMC boot camp, but being an FMF Corpsman is as close as any man can get to being a Marine without having gone to MCRD. They walk like us, talk like us, dress like us, fight like us, they are our Devil Docs.

Any Infantry Marine worth his salt will tell you that there is no more highly respected member of the rank-and-file Navy than the humble Corpsman, and they are generally adopted into the platoon (much like a pet). You run afoul of a Corpsman you've run afoul of his entire platoon, and if that happens you can just friggin' stand by. Marines protect their Corpsmen like their own sister's cherry.

Any Marine worth his salt will ever let a Corpsman pay for his own drink. EVER.

FYI "Corpsman", like "Marine", is ALWAYS capitalized.

What is wrong with having Navy Corpsmen? The Navy and the USMC have much tradition between the two. Even in the USMC emblem we honor our Naval traditions.

Would you rather we have Army medics in Marine units? The USMC is a small branch and receives little funding. They can not have every job and luxury other branches have.

And a Corpmans job is to be a corpsmen and not to fight like a Marine, so therefore he will not be trained to fight like a Marine.
