Well... I think by now you know that they use blanks... but did you know that they take three of the shells that you saw and place them inside the flag after it is folded.. as another momento from the funeral?

They use blanks. Blanks have shells. |

They are blanks..meaning they have shells but no projectile.. |

Even blanks eject shells. |

They are blanks, there is a shell but no bullet. |

Blanks still eject shells. Real shells would be too hazardous. They still pop out because of newton's law to a certain extent. |

No live rounds were used. They were blanks. |

Blank rounds still need to have the gun powder contained somewhere right? After the round is fired the cartridge still needs to be extracted and ejected. What you saw was just the brass of spent blank ammo. Sorry about the loss of your step dad. We a grateful nation thank you and your family for the sacrifices all of you and your step dad made. |

Blanks and bullets look the same (or can) - the caps just don't have the projectile installed in them. But the housing and shape of the outer shell is the same, as well as that they both contain gun powder. |

terribly sorry about ur step-dad.. they are blanks tho.. and casings are ejected but no projectile is shot out of the barrel. |

They are not caps. They are blanks. Blanks are shells (or cartridges) with a powder charge but no projectile (bullet). Spent shells are ejected the same way they are when using live rounds. |

The things you saw were the empty shell casings.
What your husband means by caps is that the casing didn't have a lead bullet in it.
The thing the gun ejects out the side is the casing, the thing that comes out the end of the barrel is the bullet.
Your husband is right. |

Blanks, unless it's a Mafia or Gang Member's funeral! |

the real question is why do you have 15 people answering this with the same answer? yes, it is blanks... no, it does not take 30 people to answer this question. |

they aren't caps, they're blanks. its a bullet case with a small amount of gunpowder in it so it basically just makes a big noise and the shell pops out like with real bullets. |

They shoot blanks. A blank is similar to a bullit where as they both have shells but the difference between the two are that bullets have a projectile and a blank has a rubber or plastic stopper to compact the powder to make the explosion.{Bang}. |

As a member of the Marine Corps league, I have attended several funerals and fired the rifles. The gun has flash suppressor on the end of the barrel, and 8 rounds are loaded in a clip. The bullets are a special Blank round. They fire like a regular round and the suppressor allows the gasses to push another round into the chamber. The spent rounds are often given to members of the family as a tribute to them, and a rememberance of the loved one who was honored.Normally the rifle is an M1 military rifle. |

They use blanks. Blanks are normal shells but without the projectiles, (Bullets). |

They were probably blanks, which are just like bullets, but without the lead tip, so they only fire a paper thing. That is the type of ammo that they use at track and field events for the starter pistol. |

Sorry for your loss!
They use blanks.
Remember what goes up must come down! It wouldn't be smart to use real ammo!
And yes blanks have shells! |

Yes, real bullets, they're live, however, difference being that ball ammo has projectile and blank ammo has just a crimped end. Next time look closely at they shells and you'll see the difference.
Both are live, one is ball the other blank. |

They are blank shells. Their is no "bullet" in the shell, just gunpowder. This way, they sound like real "bullets" and there is a shell casing to jettison from the rifle. |

They are blanks. Just a shell full of gunpowder that are crimped to hold the powder in. There's no bullet, but there's the noise and the flame shooting out the barrel. They are dangerous but 10ft max, that's a little excessive but you get the point. |

Blanks have shells; that's what holds the charge. What they DON'T have is a projectile. THAT is the "bullet." |

Blanks, but it looks like you have the answer already. real bullets could come down half a mile away, very dangerous. |
