Are the bachelor degrees any different offered at the military academies?

Besides the leadership part, are they different in any other way?

On collegeboard.com it says there is no cost and the government pays. Is this through service?

A bachelors in humanities is offered at the US Air Force Academy and I want to obtain that. I'm getting an associates in humanities, at my local community college, and want to go for a bachelors.

they are different in that a military academy or service academy (in American English) is an educational institution which prepares candidates for service in the officer corps of the Army, the Navy, Air Force or Coast Guard or provides education in a service environment, the exact definition depending on the country concerned. In addition to the standard cirrucilum, the officer learns military tactics.

They are better and yes the government pays, but you owe service in the military in return. The reason is that while getting the degree, you will get practical knowledge of your subject matter more so than at a regular college. As an example, an aerospace engineering degree from the air force academy would allow hands on with aircraft and electronic that most universities can't afford to do. They would mostly teach theory.

They are different in that, when you graduate from a 'normal' college with a BA, you'd have approximately 130-140 semester hours. At a service Acadamy, you'd graduate with over 200 sem. hours.
You would be obligated to serve at least five years active duty after graduation.
Getting into the USAFA is going to be tough, though. Good grades, community service, extracurricular activities, sports participation, all are looked at. Then you'd have to have the nomination of one of your State's Congressmen, or a service-related qualification.
Good luck.

The only difference that I know of is that you have to become a military commissioned officer for some time (so you would be a 2d Lt in the USAF)

No they are not different. You still have to go to a university to get the degree, unless there is a military college that you can attend. You will most likely get your degree from a university though. Yes you will have to join to get this. The Academy is hard to get into. You better have good grades and letters of recommendations from some pretty high ranking officials like governors, senators, ect. I am pretty sure you really need some good recommendations to get in.

While there is no technical difference between the degrees offered at the military academies, I have always found and heard that a degree at a military academy is held in considerably higher regard.

The AF Academy is extremely difficult to get into, but well worth it if you can. Good luck.

USAFA won't take any of your credits so your Associates wouldn't make a difference. It is a very prestigious degree though if you can make it through the difficult acceptance process.
