I am a 33 yo military veteran, I was a human intelligence collector with the U.S. Army, with a fluency in speaking arabic. The problem I'm having is I do not have a college degree I have some college credits due to 26 months of being in the defense language school. I would like to continue what I did for the military civilian side but being 33 and a mother I am discouraged about sitting in a classroom again.

One big step up is the preferences points you receive when applying for any and all government jobs. Try searching on USAjobs.gov. That's where all federal jobs are posted. The benefit there is that they add your time in the military to retirement. If you served 6 years in the military and join up in the government, you have only 24 to go to retirement, instead of 30. Not to mention the pay is good, benefits are good, and plenty of perks. |

I would suggest becoming a translator. You could work on your schedule and at home. You would have to take care of the taxes though. I work for a translation company.

try those 2 websites. they may be helpful. it depends on how long ago you ETS'd and if you qualify for VA assitance.
Good luck!!! |

There are jobs out there for you...however, if it's been awhile since you have held a clearance, that may make things difficult. The more experience you have is more important than your age..which you seem fixated on. Most companies look for experience in the intelligence arena. BTW, you don't have to sit in a classroom. You can work on your degree online. Also, most companies have tuition assistance or reimbursemrnt. |

A college degree is no guarantee of a job. Case in point, a friend's daughter has a degree in communication...lost her job, can't find one, has gone back to school to be a RADIOLOGIST.
Your military experience DOES count. Talk to the local employment office.
Good luck!
(USN retired with no degree...got hired in all my jobs because of my Navy experience...logistics and leadership/supervisory. Longest was 7 years, been on this one 15 years...3 short term jobs as 'stop gaps') |
