Are women allowed to go into combat zones in the air force?
|
I would prefer answers from people who have actually been in the air force or have a resource that they can direct me to.

In any branch, a woman can go into a "Combat Zone". I just returned from Bastian (Iraq) a few months ago, and there were plenty of women in the AOR (Area Of Responsibility, aka "Over There"). You will receive HFP (Hostile Fire Pay), designating it a combat zone.
What you have that confused with is if women can be in a position of infantry-like AFSC's. That is universal across all DoD branches that no women will be in the front lines. That doesn't mean that you wont be put in harms way with certain jobs. RPG's are known to strike C-130s or HH-60 that could easily have women Loadmasters or Flight Engineers aboard. You also could be a cop, used on convoy duties. |

Yes. See USAF Security Forces.
On the modern battlefield, the combat zone often comes to you. |

The entire country of Iraq is considered a combat zone and you have a lot of Air Force females deployed to Iraq. Afghanistan is also and you have female Air Force personnel deployed there as well and have had them from the beginning. |

U.S. Army Infantry (lots of knowledge on combat zones) lol
Ok, Yes women do go into combat zones (if your talking about iraq and afghan.) Medics, truck drivers, security forces are all jobs that are offered to women that will get you into combat zones. Now, AF security forces do convoy security over seas, but most of the time they patrol the base they are on. So if combat action is what your looking for and your a woman that wants to join the airforce, become security forces or a medic. If you want MORE action, become a combat medic in the Army or Marines. I am not disrespecting any branch, but I have a family member who is security forces in the AF and in 4 months in Iraq he went out on convoy missions twice.
Female medics in my unit (Army) where out there at least once a week. |

Of course they can! The only restrictions apply to certain jobs that are males only or pregnancy. Certain AF jobs are more likely to get sent to a comabt zone than others, but if your squadron goes you go with them. |

happens all the damn time as there are no defined Front Lines any more. they just cannot be in a combat related AFSC.
truck drivers are not combat jobs yet they see combat frequently. |
