I would like to know women's opinions on being in the Navy.
How are you treated? Was boot camp hard for you? Just, your experience. Thank you :)

You're treated fine, at boot camp and beyond.
And by treated fine, I mean women aren't "babied" or favored more or less than the dudes.
Boot camp has tough moments, but that's the same for everyone and every branch. Don't worry if you run slow(like me) or can't do push ups or whatever because you get better and magically turn into superwoman "woot, let's go run 5 miles yay!"
The one piece of advice I want you have for the future is NEVER get romantically involved with anyone you work with. It can cause unnecessary drama, and you can never avoid the person however much you try. |

I'm not a woman, but I was a Navy DI (RCC) for two tours, including one back in the 90s when Orlando was open. Many of my recruit companies were women.
I rarely lost a recruit for any reason, especially physical qualifications (PT). The exercise schedule at boot camp is a progressive one. What that means is, the first two weeks, you'd be expected to be able to do, oh, 12 pushups, 20 situps, and be able to run for 12 minutes. (These numbers are arbitrary - I can't remember how many my recruits did, and they've probably changed the standards since I got out.) Anyway, the second two weeks, you'll be doing more, and so on, until the final PT, which you must pass to graduate from boot camp.
I treated my ladies like my daughters. But that was me. Every DI is different. |
