Are you happy there is not a draft for the Military?

Aren't you glad you don't "have" to go into the military.

There should be a draft and that way people will protest this unlawful war

yes I am.

Why would we? If your country asks for assistance ,whether or not you agree to what they are doing, you shouldn't have to think twice about joining. If you even have a shred of diginity or loyalty in you then you would agree. Honestly, it is very sad to see people leech off of society and expect not to put in anything.

It's funny how todays young peope think a draft would encourage poorly qualified soldiers. They have bought the "spin:" from the government. It so happens that a draft ,even an unfair one catches a large group of Americans . When I was in we had teachers, chemists, college kids and many upper middle class kids. A true cross section of America. An even more fair system would have captured even more highly educated or privelidged people. As far as high tech etc. It's clear that the person that made thqt comment has no clue. I also remember one person on another question saying that those draftees were not trained as well as our volunteers. Does this guy realize there were no seperate training courses for volunteers vs draftees? Everyone got the same training. Remember 65%of World War Two servicemen were rafted ,65% of Vietnam personal voulnteered. It makes no difference really how big your muscles are how big your ego is, how brave you are or how smart you are, you get on the wrong end of incoming or get in someones sights, a two cent chinese bullet will kill you. Sorry Rambo fans , get real.

There should be a draft. If there were then EVERYONE would have something at stake when it came time to get involved in a war. Also, it would give the average joe an appreciation for the country that he lives in. If someone has put their sweat and blood into the welfare of the country they have served, then they are more likely to do what they can to ensure that it does not go to waste and take all they have as a citizen for granted.

And by the way, a draft means not just "the lower class" but the "educated" and well off people too. People who were drafted all got the same training as those that volunteered.

Either way, i'm signing up, so it doesnt matter to me. If there were one, fine, you wont find me running off to Canada. I'll stand and fight.

I do think, however, that an all volunteer military is what we SHOULD maintain. The draft would upset the quality of our military.

I'm happy there is not a draft even though I am well past draft age. The military should recruit by offering higher salaries instead they emphasize college benefit which many will never use. They also recruit people who are not college material and come from poor families and live in depressed areas. To these the military looks like a good deal and it is if they live. My basic point is that a draft is slave labor. Unless the country's security is imminently threatened a draft is not part of the free market system. The military should recruit in the labor market just like any other employer.

I turned in my draft card. I was the first to turn it in in my highschool when they were considering restarting the draft. A majority of my peers were too seditious or cowardly to do so.

I was too cowardly to enlist, but I have never turned against my country like you have. Your behavior is seditious. You have joined the enemy.

We will answer you.

As an Army officer I am Very happy there is not a draft.

And it is obvious that 'cloothe' has never been in the military or met anyone in it. That probably has more to do with the entitlement culture of the people he hangs out with and not their social standing.

Only people like REP Charles Rangle and 'me' from this question support the draft to bring people against the war because the Democrats are trying to become the party of American failure in Iraq.

DOOM
Yes. After seeing some of the dirtbags that volunteer, I would never want to work with someone who is being forced to do so.

Actually......NO!!!!!!!!!!!

Due to multiple sugeries I cannot get into the Military.........

Even with the exstensive weapons training I have.........

A draft might change that.........

Ark
I DESPISE the idea of forcing people to join the military. If that were to happen, the quality of our armed forces would go in the toilet and down the drain.

If a man wants to fight for his country, let him. If he doesn't want to, don't make him.

I, myself, plan to be an officer in the USAF.

chkibo2000
That is the best part of todays military. It ensures that we keep getting good benefits and we have more pride. we know we are in the military because we want to be.

electricpole
For the most part yes. I joined 7 yrs after the end of the draft.
If there was to be a draft, there should be strict curtailment of deferments. In a "perfect world", all the hawks and CEO's who profit from wars would have to send their offspring first.
"Mandatory National Service" may be a viable alternative to a military draft. 2 yrs in the military or 4 years of service to the nation by other means.

aenease5974
yes Iam because my son will soon be old enough to be drafted. If he chooses to go into the military then that is one thing but being made to do something against your will is unthinkable but if NK doesn't stop there crap then it could be possible in the near future and that scares me to death.
