I am so stressed out with the system. I just came back from S Korea and my husband had to stay behind because we could not pay the rent on time before pcsing. Looking back on our LES, I found out they screwed us up on the pay and are now saying it's too late to claim the money. They gave us a lump sum of money, claiming it was back pay for our house, deducted it right back on the same check, and then started making monthly deductions for it every month after that as debt that we owe. So as far as I know, we never really got any backpay and we've been paying for debt that i have no idea why we owe it since the lump sum was given and then taken away. What can I do?

How long has this been being deducted from his pay ?
If they took a lump sum out and them took out little sums after why didn't he go and ask his finance office about why they where taking money from him?
Your husband will probably need to deal with this if he is the Service Member especially since he is still at the unit. Most of the time with something like this even with a POA that states you can deal with finance they won't talk to you.
Here is the basics of what you need to do.
Print all the LES's that have the deductions on them. You also want atleast one normal LES before and after the deductions if you have them. Hopefully it hasn't' been long enough that you have a normal LES yet
Highlight the deductions so they are easy to find and hard to miss.
Take those to finance and ask to speak with the NCOIC and explain the situation to them. Show them the statements that you have printed out. If they are good they will look it all up while he stands there if not they will make him do a pay inquirery and they might make him do one on each deduction so be forewarned that it might be a long day at finance and a hell of alot of paperwork. If they do the inquiry depending on how backed up they are it could be a week or more before they give him an answer. |
