So I did something really stupid at MEPS. My heart has been set on Infantry since I was a little kid and I don't even come from a military family or anything. Unfortunately, my eyesight is 20/200 and you need 20/20 corrected to be an Infantryman, so I was denied an Infantry slot.
I wear glasses, but I wear a really old prescription. My prescription is at least 3 years old and I KNOW they don't correct my eyesight to 20/20.
The MEPS eye examiner asked me how old my prescription was and I just lied and said "less than a year" because I didn't think it mattered. My recruiter told me to lie about any health problems, so I thought that if they found out my eyes were really bad or something, I'd be DQed or something I dunno.
But what's done is done. And I think that the examiner assumed that my vision was 20/20 corrected since she thought my prescription was recent. Right? She said that the maximum vision that my vision can be corrected to is 20/25, so I can't have most combat arms jobs.
So now because I lied, I didn't get the job I wanted. I ended up with 13D Field Artillery, which is fine. I'm proud of it and at least it's a combat position. But like did the lying about my prescription screw up the exam? How does the exam work? When I get to reception before Basic, will my eye exam results be better if I tell the truth about my prescription age? Then I can be Infantry if they in fact CAN correct my vision to 20/20?
