Army Reserve or active bootcamp question?

i am wondering about army reserve bootcamp, my boyfriend is thinking about going into the army reserve, he doesnt want to believe his recruiter when he tells him that during bootcamp he can use his cell phone for 3 hours on sunday, and that he gets to write home and to me anytime he wants, i am wondering if this is true or not??

$@!!Y
not true - reserves are lame

It's a privilege that is earned through out the week.

During boot camp and this applies in most any division of the military phone privileges are determined by their instructor. Some let the guys talk on Sundays, some wont let you call at all. As for the letters they usually have a few minutes before bed to write or during any free time they may have to jot something down. With absolute certainty during the first two weeks he is gone he will not be able to call you, if he gets to at all. Also a lot of the things that the recruiter promises are not as they seem. Not that all things are bad but you have to understand that a recruiter is a 'salesman'. So that being sad I hope your boyfriend chooses his path wisely. Good luck and God bless.

I'm in the Navy and when I was in bootcamp Sunday was considered Holiday Routine where we had like 6 hours to do whatever we wanted, like shower, write home, talk, catch up on ironing our clothes, go to church, read, but I do not remember being able to call home. Every now and then our Recruit Division Officers would let us go and call our families, but we weren't even aloud cell phones in Bootcamp.

I can say that when I was in basic I could write a letter on any free time I had.At the time cell phones were not that popular but we could make phone calls from the PX on weekends we had the privilege of being off.Now free time all depends on where your at basic, who your drill instructors are and how well everyone has done to earn the right to be off.One word of caution:my wife at the time would write me EVERYDAY and my drill sergeant thought it would be fun for me to do push ups for every letter. And to the response that the reserves are lame,it is the same basic training for reserve, national guard and regular army. You all are in the same barracks and do the same training. Not to mention all the reservists and guard who have been deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan.

It depends on what boot camp he goes to. He will be able to write anytime he wants or gets a chance to do so. However the cell phone usage is a questionable one. Boot camp has changed a lot in the last few years and although i am not positive about it I do think that they are allowed cell phones but I do not think that they are allowed to use them but for certain times of the day/week. So the recruiter might be telling the truth. He will almost just have to wait and see.

I don't know about the cell phone, as weak as the Army has become, that's actually possible, although doesn't seem very likely, but a person could write a letter every day if they wanted to, why they would want to I don't know, but they could.

megan to the best of my knowledge that is not true.

All Army personnel (Active, Reserve and Guard) go to the same boot camp. There is no special Army Reserve bootcamp. That being said, it is very easy. They do get cell phones now and you can write home as much as you want. Tell your boyfriend to man up and stop looking for excuses.
