Army and Marines rivalry?

Um... Army vs. Navy... football rivalry. I wasn't aware the Marines had a football team.

But, while the Navy may be called squids by the other services, and the Marines jar-heads, and the Army grunts... they generally do so in good inter-service humor--not rivalry. But I was Navy, and I'd take exception to anybody intentionally and maliciously running down any service... even in ignorance.

And the dudes in Special Forces don't talk about it much. It's usually the wannabes who rag about which is the best.

Those who know and love them are important to them. Those that don't... so what? So, I'd guess your little exercise won't get much from those that count--those involved in your rivalry.

I am not a believer in inter-service rivalry. I have the greatest respect for anybody who serves. Each service has a place for those who choose to serve in whatever capacity they can offer.

I will give you an honest answer..The bootcamp was much harder..I was in the marines and we thought that we were tougher and meaner than the army..my daughter enlisted in the army 3 years ago and it was alot tougher than the marine corps was in 1968. I reflect back on it and wonder if I could have made it through todays army bootcamp..I am very proud of my daughter and all of the miltary members

the marines basic training is not longer. they start day one the moment they arrive to in-process. the army has many "day zeros" before day one begins. The marines dog the army because the loudest one is heard. i've seen their tactics and their equipment. the army is better and thats all there is to it... and you mr. sound like you got your butt hurt over some trash talking... get some vagasil and quit whinnning. you are giving them more ammo to make fun of you.

There's always been rivalry between the Army and the Marines. When i was in Basic Fort Jackson South Carolina we encountered Marines often ( Paris Island South Carolina for the Marines ) and they used to tease us often "Army Ain't Ready For The Marines Yet". We used to dog them back nothing new both branches are full of pride and there both proud. I know i am Army Strong so Marines deal with it.

I agree with you. The Marines just complain and ***** about everything, and therefore are heard more and people think theyre badass or something. Its all about selfless service really, the Army teaches it and lives it.

I believe the Marines are trained harder... Im not sure. Idk , im sure all of the teasing is in good fun.

That is incorrect..Infantry Army Basic and AIT are the same..Combined total of 15 weeks. But we are one team one fight. The Marines are just like my little brothers, I can pick on them but you had not mess with them.

I think it comes down to the fact that the Marines are still part of the Navy, and they're just a little sensitive about that.

Special forces for the Marines are solely Recon, but the Army will take Marines as Rangers and the Navy will take them as SEALS.

Overall, though, the Army is a better organization. My platoon leader, 2LT Garrett was a Marine for five years before he went to TX A&M, and he believes the Army's organization and traditions and life makes far more sense than that of the Marines. Garrett is now a cavalry Major.

Although the jobs are almost the same, the only Marine I ever saw in Europe was guard at the embassy in Frankfurt. Marines are still Department of the Navy, and the first Marines of the 18th century sent to be on American ships were Continental Army soldiers.

Nothing against the Marines (other than it seems to take the Marines three months what the Army can do in two-Basic Training-slow learners?), but Army always has much better things. The Marines are usually the last in line in terms of getting new battle technology and are a department of the Navy, so that may be why numbers are so small.

They're called jarheads for a reason. They're typically not the brightest bunch. Don't be to hard on them

In the Army we call Marine's bullet sponges. As far as being "tough" I've known a few marines in my day, some were bright, some were not, but when I had to go on an operation with them, I swore to god they were going to get themselves killed, I can't speak for all Marines but the ones I had to go on MNF-I missions with weren't to bright (or tactically proficient).

well i heard that the marines are much harder then army they say that the army is lazy and dont make you guys do as much as the marines
ppl say the marines are the strongest since they do more and are tougher to get through. i myself was going to join the marines but when i heard that they are much harder than the army i decided to not go to neither id rather live my life working less and enjoy it

Marines are leaner and meaner. They work harder with less equipment. Pretty much every Marine will disagree that you can do what they do, but every Army guy likes to think it. Their physical standards and working standards are higher. They are arrogant because they can be, and they know it. And as for the deaths thing. One might say it has to do with the differences in the sizes of the branches and lengths of deployments? Alternatively, I have heard from many Marines that it has much more to do with training differences and the fact that Army are just not as good at staying alive. That will ruffle some feathers, but its just plain true. ;)

Just a few of the many reasons I could never be an Army wife....
