Army is apparently better than marines?

Ok, dont leave something stupid like "join the CG or Airforce or Navy" Because I WONT. Wow. Army men say, join the army, its better and safer. But I know for fact the deployment is longer, but the schooling chances are better. While Marines say "hey, We're the best". My father was a marine, but things change. Just because you can shoot a gun better, does not mean you can dodge a bullet. I'm not fond of movies, and this isn't the matrix. Im 20 and I plan to take care of my wife, whatever the cost. Id like some opinions, biased or not. Whats going to be better for me, so that in the end, My wife and myself will enjoy it.

Im afraid that you probably are not going to make much progress toward choosing which branch of the service to join by asking on here. You seem like you are smart enough to know that. But it is always amusing to read the different opinions that you get with a question like yours.
I have served in the Marines and the Army and I will tell you that they are very different. If you comradery, a great sense of self-pride, and to see combat then join the Marines.
If you want better opotunities to attend more schools and training, a larger choice of jobs and places to be stationed, and slightly more freedom then join the Army.
I was single when I was in the Marines and really enjoyed all of the travell and time in the field. But it would have been hard with a family. A lot of guys do it though and some how make it work. |

Depends on what you want to do in the military. You apparently aren't interested in the services that offer the best technical job skills, so you must want the opportunity for direct combat.
It that is the case, I'd say the Marines. Smaller, closer, better trained service. Uniform looks way sharper, every Marine I've ever encountered is the ultimate professional.
21 years ago I made my decision and was deciding between the USAF and Marines. I picked the USAF because I wanted to have technical skills. I love wearing a uniform and wonder what it would have been like had I been a Marine instead. Any choice is good if you do it right, wear it with pride and honor. |

I have been in the Army for 25 years and married at the same time. I will tell you have am extremely biased towards the army as it is the service I have dedicated myself to. However, with that being said you cannot go wrong with any service you choose overall. But what you need to do is decide what it is you really want out of the service. My suggestion to you is to go visit the service recruiters for the services you plan to look at and from the sounds of things that would be the army and the marines. Both services deploy, both services have good rank progression, both services provide the same medical benefits, both services provide the exact same pay scale, both services provide both combat and combat service support jobs you can do... now the differences more training in over 150 different jobs, more duty assignments to go to, more positions in each MOS so more chance to get the job you want if you qualify, I do however suggest going and talking to a recruiter with your wife so you can both ask questions of the recruiters that will help in your decision. |

I'm in no way a recruiter. I try to be fair to all the branches and the guard/reserve.
The Army has a different life style and mission from the Marine corps. Having more troops than the Marine Corp, the Army is the first choice for occupation and the "show of force". Our training styles are similar to the point were we train together in many MOS's. The only difference is the Disciplinary actions used. I really have nothing but respect for the Marines, they guard the president, and the tomb of the unknown soldier. But its the Army who makes up the body of the military. |

First, you need to decide what you would like to do. that is important, because you do have a choice. the military is not all fighting and war. and unless that is what you want to do, you don't have to do it.
the common misconception that everybody fights is just that. a cook doesn't fight, not does and vehicle mechanic.
if you want to join the infantry, fine. but you do understand that if you join the army, you have a choice. that is why the army is better, you have a choice in what you want to do, where you would like to be stationed, and how long you want to join for.
you can be a animal care technician stationed in Hawaii, or even drive a boat in the army.
as a recruiter I signed people up to be:
a flute player, a carpentry and masonry specialist, a helicopter Pilot (right out of high school)
so, don't think that the army is just infantry, or tanks, or artillery. there are lots of other jobs, but you have to open your mind to them |

You should probably join the Marines so when you do go to Afghanistan it won't be as long. I think that would be better for a marriage. |

Army has more bases which means you could POSSIBLY be closer to home. Unless you're from NC or CA. I guess it depends on your MOS. |

Sad your not Australian, as we have the best Special Forces and Defence Forces in the world. Not in number but in their value and training. Often Australians in Afghanistan have saved Yanks.
However, even though you don't like it give Air Force a go or go in a submarine and re-enact Hunt for Red October with the Chinese!
Army or Marines and your off to Iraq or Afghanistan. So don't rule out USAF or USNavy. |
