Why not try for both.

Rangers are not just conventional, they are like half and half. half conventional, half unconventional.
Also, Rangers are special operations.

Special Forces are a few steps above Rangers. They are trained more specifically in certain tasks and operations.

You could enlist into Opt. 40, than if you pass Ranger Indoc, then you are assigned to the ranger battalion, then after 6-12 months you will go to Ranger school, then after a few years in the Rangers, you could try for Special Forces.

Doing that would benefit you a lot, because what you learn in the Rangers will help you in Special Forces training.

Special Forces training is WAY longer than ranger training, and harder, but Ranger training is no walk in the park either, but there is no problem doing both.

Many in Army Special Forces, and Even Delta Force started in the Ranger regiment.

If you have any more specific questions regarding Ranger training, or SF training, shoot me an email, i have talked to some Rangers, and i have done a crap load of research.

You should sign up for Ranger regiment. Spend a few years there and if your any good at it then try out for Special Forces Selection.

What do you want to do? You can't say you have what it takes if you haven't done it, you can be confident, but you will never know until you attempt.

My advice to you, if i understand your question right, is to simply worry about basic and AIT first. Accomplish the mission at hand.

Both are Unconventional warfare Units. Both work side by side. But Rangers have a high turn over rate so don't expect to stay there long. Go for Rangers then once you get Ranger school done after a couple years in Regiment move over to Special Forces. Most Rangers have no problem getting through Selection and the Pipeline.

That depends on your intelligence. If you've got a brain and like to use it once in a while then Special Forces is your gig. All other reasons refer to Rangers. Know what I mean?

there both considered soft units (special forces) but sp. forces go in and train native forces to fight and they do um unconventional warfare where as ranger are a quickly deployed unit i hear can be anywhere on the glob in like 14 hrs......... personally id fo sp. forces but you gotta get a 98 on the asvb

They both have very different missions.

Rangers are composed of rapidly-deployable light infantry forces with specialized skills that enable them to perform a variety of conventional and special operations missions – airborne, air assault, and direct action operations, raids, infiltration and exfiltration by air, land or sea in addition to airfield seizure, recovery of personnel and special equipment, and support of general purpose forces (GPF), among other uses. Each Ranger battalion is expected to deploy anywhere in the world within 18 hours notice. (Elite Conventional)

Green Berets are a Special Operations Force (SOF) of the United States Army tasked with five primary missions: unconventional warfare, foreign internal defense, special reconnaissance, direct action, and counter-terrorism. The first two emphasize language, cultural, and training skills in working with foreign troops. Other duties include combat search and rescue (CSAR), security assistance, peacekeeping, humanitarian assistance, humanitarian demining, counter-proliferation, psychological operations, and counter-drug operations. (Elite Unconventional)
