I'm planning on continuing with college AT LEAST until I get my Associates Degree next year. I'll have between 62 and 68 credits. I've heard it's 24 credits to be a E-2 and 43 or 40 something credits to be an E-3..but nothing about credits in the 60's. Would I still continue advancing to E-4/E-5? Do I absolutely have to have a BA degree to be an officer? Or would it be just as beneficial or even more so if I did enlist with just an AS degree as, say, an E-4 and rapidly progress..just as fast as an E-1 or someone lower would after boot and A school and it wouldn't take me very long to be an officer?

E3 is the highest you can get when you join the Navy. If your Rating offers it you might get E4 when finishing A school but no guarantees. usually for advancement in E4 to E6 you must serve a certain time at your current Rating and then pass one of the two exams offered each year. March and September are when the exams are, results come out 2 months later and then you will find out if you have enough points to be advanced. Depending on your Rating to how many is being advanced each exam, sometimes it can be 20 out of 100 and other times it could be 50 out of 400. Each Rating is different.
To become a US Naval Officer, you must have a Bachelor's Degree in an area they are looking for and have a GPA above 3.5. Lots of people apply for it each year but not everyone makes it. There is lots of Enlisted personnel who have Bachelor Degrees, Masters Degrees even Doctorates. |
