Asthma and the Military, you've probably never heard of this?
|
I was diagnosed with I believe Allergenic induced Asthma when I was around 6 years old. My Asthma was linked into Insulin Resistance and my Doctor has told me that he would clear me to join the Military because my Asthma is no more.
When I was younger he wrote prescriptions such as rescue inhalers, that I got for someone else in my family, because they couldnt afford the inhalers themselves.
My question is if a person doesnt have asthma but has got asthma medication filled past age 13, is that still a DQ? Even if you can prove you do not have Asthma Additional Details Kleighs, I personally don't care if you believe me. Shame on me?
Your name is "Kleighs Mommy", probably a child you don't even have custody of, or are infatuated with that isnt even yours, and you're sitting on the internet, probably for 20 hours of the day.
Shame on you my dear.

Ok, first off, what your doctor did was NOT wrong; it's called "off label" prescribing, and it's commonly done when another medication can assist you but isn't primrily developed for that use.
Number 2, if you can PROVE, definitively, that you did not suffer from asthama after the age of twelve, you are good to go. |

I highly doubt your doctor wrote a prescription in your name for someone else that could cause him to lose his license.
Previously, any history of asthma was disqualifying, regardless of age. While medical waivers were sometimes possible, waiver approval usually required scheduling and passing a pulmonary function test. Under the new policy, Asthma is only disqualifying if it occurs after the applicant’s 13th birthday.
Medical record screening may still be required, depending on the applicant’s medical history. However, in many cases, a signed statement, attached to the medical pre-screening form, stating that the applicant did not have any type of asthma (including exercise induced, or allergic asthma) or treatment for asthma after their 13th birthday will be sufficient.
Applicants who’ve experienced asthma or reactive airway disease after age 13 will require all medical documentation. Waivers may still be considered, depending on the applicant’s medical history and – possibly results from a pulmonary function test. |

So they do not keep you out for asthma and keep you out for felony diversion of prescription drugs. It is ILLEGAL to get a drug from a doctor for someone else!!
DUH.... |

yes it is still a DQ. filling the RXs for somebody else by the way is stupid, illegal and could have gotten somebody KILLED.
your doctor will have little influence over MEPS. |

basically you had a doctor when you were a minor to commit fraud
yeah right
a doctor will not risk his license to give you a prescription for someone else
your trying to defraud the military good luck with that when caught you will be thrown out dishonorably
your medical records show you getting rescue inhalers how can you prove you dont have asthma with a clear history of inhalers in your medical records
do you really think the people at meps your recruiter or the military is that stupid
shame on you

When I enlisted back in 07 it was possible to get in. At MEPS they even ask you if you have had asthma since age 13, since childhood asthma wasn't a disqualifier back then. But the army changes all the time and you should ask your recruiter. I have to use an inhaler for my bronchitis, but I wasn't diagnosed with it until I was almost finished with AIT. |
