I will be 30 in a little less than two months. I've had a conversation with a National Guard recruiter about enlisting as an 09S (officer candidate). For anyone who's been through this and working their way up the ranks is it possible to make Major before the mandatory retirement age?

You have a lot of time.
Once you hit CPT you have 4 years minimum, but you have to be a vacancy promotion to get it (you have to be in an O-4 slot).
At 6 years you go before a DA Board. If selected, you can get promoted immediately upon transfer to an O-4 slot, if not in a slot, you can go IRR to get it, or defer it for up to 3 years.
If non-select at 6, you are boarded every year for the next two years. If you are non-select twice, you are separated on the first day of the seventh month from confirmation. |

The mandatory retirement age for NG is 64. So, yes, you should be able to make O-4 with 34 years of service. |

only takes about 10-12 years to make O4. if you can't get there by then you will be kicked out long before Max retirement age. |
