Entirely up to you. I always throw in a buck or so even if I just have a small bag and carry it myself.

justme
$1.00 per cart.

I'm a single Airman in the AF. I shopped at the Commisary once. And I was very surprised and confused to see that they could take tips, unlike the civilian grocery stores. Thanks for your question. I will definitely tip them next time. You answered one of my own forgotten questions!

It usually depends on how much I purchase.

If I only have one bag, I usually tip one or two dollars. If I have a lot of bags, I tip more - maybe $5 or $7. Whether they take it to my car or not is irrelevant to me - they are tipped for bagging, not carrying.

I have answered this before.

It is a factor of rank and such.

I shop at Fort Carson, Colorado.

Before Yahoo Answers i tipped say $2 and a few coins $1 in the bucket at the checkout.

I now realize that very senior NCO's, officers and retired need to tip more than $2.

However, the baggers are essential as well the commissary gets busy and they serve many elderly and women, well "with child".

I talk with the baggers as of late: no real answers but hints: if you are in the "Colonel or W-5" parking space, well how about $3-5 bucks for a full basket?

But I do not like the idea of enlisted spouses - "mom's"- tossing out more than $1 to $2 bucks.

Just one retired view, but we make more than the major general at Fort Carson, sounds like a lot?. So I started tipping for my "GI" haircut $5 a few years ago, man I am popular with those folks!

At Chirstmas season: I give them $10 if I recall them, etc.

My rule is: under $100 $1 buck enlisted
over $150 say $2 then above that for a really full or two cart job.

I would like to see a sign for EM stating that for E-2-E-6 $1-2 buck is a tip.

My experience is as not a PFC or Sgt's spouse but I do the shopping, but a "fiver" is still money if you have a few kids?

I would usually give them five bucks. Its a mind numbing job and I'm sure that some people don't tip. Besides I'm all ready dropping like a hundred on groceries all ready so the extra five won't be missed too terribly.

When it's just a couple bags that I can carry myself, i.e. a carton of milk and a loaf of bread, I'll drop a varying amount of pocket change into their little basket by the register, like whatever coinage I get (unless it's a dime or something insignificant like that) from rounding up to the next dollar amount. Car service usually gets them a dollar flat rate (unless I have a TON of groceries, which is rare). By myself I usually don't spend more than $60 per trip though.

I tip at least 2 bucks for anything I get at the commissary. Even if it's just a bottle of soda and a sandwich from the deli that I carry out myself. If I'm actually grocery shopping I'll drop a minimum of 5 bones on them.

An above poster is correct. Tip money is the only money they get paid for putting your stuff in a bag. If you don't tip them then don't have them bag your groceries. They are not like Safeway or Albertson's where baggers get a wage for being there. Tips are the only money they make while working at the commissary.

Fee for service.

Baggers are NOT paid by anything but tips. If I spend a bit (over say 75) I tip about 4 bucks.

You really should pay about the same - even if you take it out to your vehicle yourself.

rich2481
20 bucks

Nothing, if I take my groceries to the car. Vance only has a checker that bags also. At least when I have been there. I never have seen anyone tip a bagger for just bagging groceries.

$1
