He's not AWOL anymore. He has been gone too long. He is a "Deserter in Time of War." A crime punishable by death, although not enforced with Death since WW2. He is going to BMITA prison.

1 year huh.
Deserter not AWOL.
Jail time I hope!!

Was he AWOL with your consent, like did he LIVE with you while he was deserting his brothers and sisters who are fighting and dying over where he abandoned them? DID you in anyway help him desert?

Not only would I be ashamed of my husband for abandoning his duty and becoming nothing but a coward, If I was involved in anyway with his desertion- I would be scared for my own well-being.

Also, life can be so hard and crappy that the only thing you feel like doing is, literally, cry yourself to death. Life is no easy game to play. We are all human and we all feel nonetheless.

Godbless you two regardless of what happened. He will be a man and face what he has coming and you two will recover and live on.

He will probably be taken to trial and could be sentenced to serve in a federal pen (daily Hard labor). The military takes this very seriously.

unfortunately dear there are a number of things that could happen including prison time, and forcing him to serve out his contract pretty much anywhere in the world, or dischraging, or a number or combination of many things. I sure hope he had a good reason. your in my prayers

since they caught him instead of him just turning himself in... there is a chance he could do some jail time.... followed by a dishonorable discharge.
he could also just face a dishonorable discharge.
Either way he will get an article 15 and they will take his rank and all benefits away. If he owes the military any money he will have to pay that back (he will live in the barracks and not receive a paycheck until it is paid back)

Units do not want soldiers to stay in who have been awol (unless! the soldier has turned themself in and asks to stay in the service... then the amount of AWOL time is tacked on to the end of the enlistment...i have seen that happen a few times) they will just do what they have to do to get rid of him.... depending on the unit it could take a couple months... to about a year.

Court-Martialed. Loss of rank to E-1. Loss of pay. Time owed plus more in military prison...Ft Leavenworth. Bad Conduct Discharge with zero chance to upgrade BCD to Other than Honorable Discharge years later.

Seriously...if you knew that he was a deserter...and that one day he would be caught...should have pushed him back to responsibly face this problem earlier cause this now will affect his, and your future.

It really depends on his commander. I've known one person who really pissed of our CO before going AWOL. The CO had MP's go to his house and find him. And like a dumb ***, the AWOL guy was there...

Another explained things to the CO and he was paperworked out of the Army. Not sure about the details...

Justin
the people I knew had one of two things happen.
1. brig time and force to seerve the remainder of their contract, the time awol and time in the brig doesn't count towards your service. discharge type will vary.
2. serve brig time and given dishonorable discharge

your husband is a deserter!
in times of war deserters can be shot in front of a firing squad!
He might get sent to Ft Leavenworth Military Prison in Kansas!
serve his time then given a Bad Conduct Discharge!

He will have to do time in a milatary prison

Since it is over 30 days, he is not AWOL, he is a deserter.

While desertion can be punishable by execution, it is unlikely that will happen.Possibly prison time, but definitely a dishonorable discharge.

Nothing. They are going to say dont do that anymore. He will probably get in a little trouble. Like extra duty or something. They wont kill him and he wont go to jail.
