Basic training physically fit?

How fit do you have to be to pass basic training? I have choosen to join the military but the only thing holding me back is the fear that i might fail basic do to the extra pounds i have aquired over the years, i am 19 years old. I can run but it scares me that when i run it kills my feet. I just dont want to join and end up not being able to run the 2 mile thing. I am not a failure. any answer will help thx

in order to get TO basic training you MUST pass the 1-1-1 physical assessment. this is done AFTER you enlist and take your Oath of Enlistment at M.E.P.S..
the standards for a male of any age is a minimum of: 13 pushups (military style upper arms MUST be inline with the floor hand shoulder width apart) in one minute
17 situps (thats full situps neck line must break the line vertically from the base of your spine for it to count) in one minute
and a one mile run in no less than 8:30 seconds.
These statistics are based off of a straight enlistment with no PRE-BCT training checklist. this also does not enclude the MOS 18X (special forces candidate) in those instances it is based off of the A.P.F.T. scale and you must pass the APFT with a 60 minimum to ship. In order to GRADUATE BCT you must get a minimum of 50 points in each area to graduate. not 60.
you WILL NOT fail BCT ,. , the DS's are there to make you pass. and pass you will. 2 miles is nothing to a fit person, and youll be a fit person after 9 (or 14 if you go combat arms OSUT) weeks in BCT.. make the choice and stick to it. the rewards are a plenty.

Well, if you are joining the Army here is a break down of what you have to do to pass the PT test. Pick your age group, you have to score at least 60% in each event

Which branch of the services basic training?

If you're that much overweight your feet hurt, you probably need to lose weight to join.

Make sure you're about 10 pounds under the max weight allowance. They'll tell you to come back later on if you're not.

You will have plenty of time to get yourself in shape before you ship out to Basic so don't stress about it. You already chose to be a fighter by enlisting, so now you just have to act on it.

Email me and I will help you prepare

I knew a guy who had flat feet that held him back for months. Don't worry you'll GET in shape in basic. Skinny guys gain weight, chubby guys lose weight. Anyone can run the times desired, and if you can't you will!!!

I wouldnt worry about it too much. Just keep running now and you should be fine. They make you run a ton in Bt, you'll get use to it and be fine. Its all a mind game anyway.

Don't worry Basic Training will get you there, I'm a veteran of the U.S ARMY, and when I went through basic in the early 80's we did P.T (Physical Training) every day, I can remember Drill Sgts used to come through the barracks with a metal trash can beating it with a stick at O dark thirty in the morning , Holloring you have got 2 minutes to fall out for PT formation, lets go, time is ticking

Don't worry about it. Before going in, work on your sit ups and push ups. You need to be able to run, but if you can't they will help you with that. You will get conditioned to run. I was not a runner. At all. I hated to run. By the end of Navy Boot, I was able to run 20 min straight without an ounce of trouble. I couldn't run 100 feet without quiting before.
Don't worry about it. You need to be averagely fit to get through it. I had a girl in my boot who was at least 170 lbs and she passed.
